Introduce Yourself

Who am I?

Hello!

I am Alberto Aguilar, better known as “geppettvs” worldwide and in the cyberspace, so you know, anything related to technology and this nickname is something I was involved in, and you can find me everywhere with this nickname.

I have been involved on technology since 1990, when I started learning in order to create programs in several languages such as Basic, Cobol, Pascal and other useful tools like dBase III+ and so. My first Operating System when learning was the MS DOS 6.0 but my first professional working environment OS was the UNIX V Santa Cruz Operation.

What I do

I am currently working as a Webmaster in for the local government in the municipality of Altamira, Tamaulipas, which is a small town indeed, located on the Gulf of Mexico and one of the most important commercial and industrial ports of the country. You can see my work as a webmaster in the official webpage at https://altamira.gob.mx

I am also in charge of the official webpage for the Family’s Integral Development System (aka DIF because of its initials in Spanish) and you can visit the page at https://difaltamira.gob.mx

“LA RETAMA” Administrative Municipality Offices

I also lead a group self named The Nuvogue Electronics & Precision, composed by enthusiasts of the TIC’s in a small business at the same city. We work in a small workshop where together we provide services for social network advertisement and community management for persons and local companies.

What is the most interesting thing you’ve done as a Local Guide?

I have been walking in my city and visiting places like commercial places like malls and big stores, my favorites are recreational places and restaurants and I feel exciting the possibility to share my opinion and experiences with other people in a way in which we may influence in their wish to visit such places.

I have also been in places, other than my city, and sharing my experiences may help other people who is going to the same place to know where to go and find good stuff for buying, or the best places to have a drink or a good lunch time. Exciting experiences shared when I visit historical places and museums, zoo’s and other guided attractions.

Can you imagine there are lots of places the people hasn’t found so far just because of nobody has written about them yet? I love to help people find what they don’t know it exist, and I love the most when I help a place to be found on the map.

Once I went to Queretaro, México, and found a local artist who is a man who also lived in my city and I didn’t know about him! Experiences like this must see the light and people should be able to find this people and know about their artwork.

But the most interesting thing I have done so far, is to write about other countries places where I have been. I think this is exciting just because of it helps people and makes me wish to arrive to the place thinking “What I am going to write about?”, the experience to enter a place has changed since I can give my opinion. It is not just about what I am going to do in that place and it is now a thing like “I need to get the best of the place in order to write about it!”

What does the Local Guides program mean to you?

It is an opportunity to connect with people and places. It is -so far- the best way I have to choose where to do and what to do when I visit a place, and it is a good way to improve whatever I have done before, in order to do better things the next time.

I used to have a blog, and some other local/remote tools to record my experiences before I had the Local Guides experience, now I have separated my travels and visit experiences from the blogs and other social network in order to do this because of I find it not only useful for me but the rest of the world. And I think it is a way to leave a footprint on whatever I do for the future generations.

Thank you for reading, visit Altamira, Mexico someday and drop a message on me. Maybe I can help you!

Hi @geppettvs

I just wanted to let you know that I have removed the Spanish language tag from your post as it’s written in English. These labels are used so that posts in different languages can be found more easily by Local Guides.

You can learn more about language tags in the article How do I find posts in my preferred language?.
