Introduce Yourself — May 2022

Hi everyone! Welcome to Local Guides Connect. Please take a moment to introduce yourself to our community.

As “Introduce Yourself” threads can be lengthy, we start a new one each month and lock past threads. You can check previous threads, like April’s, to see who recently joined and where they’re from. We’ll merge any “I’m new” and “Hello world” posts we find elsewhere with this thread to keep things organized.

Do you want to be featured in our monthly Introduce Yourself posts? Share your introduction in the comments, following the five prompts below, and a horizontal photo of yourself (in landscape mode). We will select one of the best introductions and include it in our next month’s post. Please note: Your response may be edited for clarity. By taking part in this challenge, you agree to us sharing your answers and photo(s) publicly here on Connect.

This month, meet @SaraMencia ! Sara is a Local Guide Level 8, and here’s what they shared about themselves.

Helloooooo Local Guides! I can’t forgive myself for just discovering this community in April! Well, it is never [too] late for good things, so allow me to introduce myself!

1. Name: Sara Mencia

2. Location: [I was] born in the Dominican Republic but have lived in Ontario, Canada, since 2011. I lived for six years in the beautiful city of Toronto. Currently, I live in Hamilton, Ontario.

3. What I love about being a Local Guide: It gives me the opportunity to explore my surroundings wherever I visit, being my hometown or on one of my trips outside Canada. One thing I truly like is the recognition of being a trusted source of information because of my Local Guides badge! Being a Local Guide has made me more adventurous and motivates me to go out more often!!!

4. My favorite thing to explore: Little towns around me and their museums, parks, and restaurants! I am a coffee lover, so reviewing coffee shops is another of my favorite things!

5. Fun Fact about me: I am a banker who loves to laugh! So, bankers can be cool, too. :sunglasses:

Nice to meet you, Sara! Local Guides, don’t miss the chance to say hi to Sara in the comments below and to share your introduction, too.

  1. Hi my name is Kenneth Kimmes,
  2. I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
  3. I love being a local guide exploring things in Toronto and mainly north america. I especially like restaurants, hotels and parks.
  4. I am always looking for beautiful flowers in parks or as I explore. I also keep in mind if the location is mobility accessible as I do my reviews so prior to going somewhere it lets visitors know if there any obstacles they may encounter.
  5. A fun fact about me is that I am an early riser and go for a walk every morning to discover the day, where there is beauty and joy.

Hi and welcome to Connect @SaraMencia .

I’m sorry that I missed saying hello and welcoming you when I greeted @Ken_kimmes . a day or so ago. It’s great to hear that being a Local Guide has made you more adventurous and motivated to go out more often! I found the same and it has also given me a deeper and greater interest the places that I visit.

That is correct @AdamGT - being a local guide is a great responsibility and makes us more conscious of the places we visit! No need to apologize :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi guys,

@MashaPS

I am Brian Odoyo,I hail from Kisii,Kenya.Born and raised here and lived my entire life in the beautiful country

I love being a local guide as it enables us enrich users with information about places surrounding us and making it easier to get by as well as create awareness to causes that might help make the world a better place

My favorite things to explore are locations little known by others in my country and far beyond (that I might visit in future),from tourist attractions, holiday locations and places that create memories

Fun fact about me is I am actually a cab driver who enjoys what he does best and I love the little things in life
