Introduce Yourself — July 2023

Hi everyone! Welcome to Local Guides Connect. Please take a moment to introduce yourself to our community.

As “Introduce Yourself” threads can be lengthy, we start a new one each month and lock past threads. You can check previous threads, like June’s, to see who recently joined and where they’re from. We’ll merge any “I’m new” and “Hello world” posts we find elsewhere with this thread to keep things organized.

Do you want to be featured in our monthly Introduce Yourself posts**?** Share your introduction in the comments, following the five prompts below, and a horizontal photo of yourself (in landscape mode). We will select one of the best introductions and include it in our next month’s post. Please note: Your response may be edited for clarity. By taking part in this challenge, you agree to allow us to share your answers and photo(s) publicly here on Connect.

This month, meet @Rednewt74 ! Alfred is a Local Guide Level 8, and here’s what he shared.

1. Name: Alfred

2. Location: Brattleboro, Vermont, USA. Brattleboro is a town of about 12,000 people on the Connecticut River.

3. What I love about being a Local Guide: I love being able to give something back to a business where I had a great experience, by making them easier to find and putting up photos that show them in their best light and making it more likely for someone to choose to go there. I especially love it when I find a great place that somehow has not made it onto Maps yet and I get to add them.

4. My favorite thing to explore: I love all kinds of places. Looking through my reviews you might think I spend most of my time in coffee shops, bakeries, and ice cream shops. And I do love these places, but I especially like exploring and photographing churches, parks, and local farms.

5. Fun fact about me: Last summer, I was visiting Mashpee, MA, and made friends with a gentleman that lived there year-round. He and his neighborhood association had created a pond (which was visible on Google Maps, but unnamed) and he had been chosen to name it. He named it Frog’s Leap Pond. I was able to get the name added to Maps for him. He was so happy about that and it is the contribution to Maps that I am most proud of.

Read here about “When and how I became a Local Guide.”

Nice to meet you, Alfred! Local Guides, don’t miss the chance to say hi to Alfred in the comments below and share your introduction, too.

Hi @Rednewt74 so you love having coffee and also a desert lover.

We both sail in the same boat…you will find me mostly in a cafe shop with a book and a coffe …I wish we could sit one day together and sip a coffee.

Congratulations for getting recognised on introduction month post.

Hello @Rednewt74 , we’ve already met once or twice before here on Connect but it’s nice to find out something new about you. Well done on getting Frog’s Leap Pond listed on Maps. I visited the Maps listing and from what I can see it looks like it’s quite a large pond under the Category of Fishing pond so from the name I assume there are lots of frogs in it as well as fish.

Even though they are harder to find these days, like you I love adding missing places on Maps.

@AdamGT ,

It’s funny that you should mention the fish. Initially there were a large number of frogs. My friend introduced fish to the pond and now they’re very few frogs becausethey are the fish’s favorite food. :roll_eyes:

@Rednewt74 Let’s hope there were no frogs belonging to endangered species in that pond… Haha :laughing:

@SadmanRafid ,

Thank you for the welcome. Indeed that would be a problem. I guess this is another case of being careful what you wish for. My friend did say it’s much quieter at night now. :thinking:

@KashifMisidia ,

Thank you for the warm welcome. I’m having such a great time here on Connect.
