Introduce Yourself — December 2022

Hi everyone! Welcome to Local Guides Connect. Please take a moment to introduce yourself to our community.

As “Introduce Yourself” threads can be lengthy, we start a new one each month and lock past threads. You can check previous threads, like November’s, to see who recently joined and where they’re from. We’ll merge any “I’m new” and “Hello world” posts we find elsewhere with this thread to keep things organized.

Do you want to be featured in our monthly Introduce Yourself posts? Share your introduction in the comments, following the five prompts below, and a horizontal photo of yourself (in landscape mode). We will select one of the best introductions and include it in our next month’s post. Please note: Your response may be edited for clarity. By taking part in this challenge, you agree to us sharing your answers and photo(s) publicly here on Connect.

This month, meet @SenalDilanka ! Senal is a Local Guide Level 7, and here’s what they shared about themselves.

1. Name: J. P. Senal Dilanka Dilhan

2. Location: Divulapitiya, Sri Lanka

3. What I love about being a Local Guide: I started contributing when I was 18, and my first contribution was a photo. Now, after two years, I am Level 7. It’s quite an amazing journey. I have met tons of people and visited many beautiful places with the help of other Local Guides. If I want to go somewhere, I open Google Maps and search for my destination. Then, I look at other Local Guides’ reviews and their unique photos. Every time they help me a lot. Like other Local Guides, I love to help people who are traveling by contributing photos, writing detailed reviews, editing places, and adding new ones to the map.

4. My favorite thing to explore: My favorite thing to explore is tourist attractions  because my country’s economy mainly relies on tourism. I go to those places, take photos and videos, and put them on Google Maps to see others’ reactions and interests.

5. **Fun fact about me:**You can see me wearing a Google Code-in t-shirt in the photo  . I love coding; I am also the number one student in ICT at my school. I am helping my school’s ICT junior members learn how to code. So coding and exploring are my life :hugs: .

Nice to meet you, Senal! Local Guides, don’t miss the chance to say hi to Senal in the comments below and to share your introduction, too.

Hi @MashaPS

Happy to read from you. I haven’t seen a post from you in a long time.

Thank you for keeping it all together. It’s not easy to watch all of the familiar faces leave one after the other, very few of you are left and still keep doing this work. Well done.

I commented on this thread just to say hi  but I guess it’s worth participating in this funxercise

  1. Name - Ewaade
  2. Location: Lagos, Nigeria
  3. What I love about being a Local Guide? Having a ‘real life diary’ with details and secrets that are beneficial to other people
  4. My favorite thing to explore - Beaches! You can’t separate a Lagos girl from her Beaches
  5. Fun fact about me - I love kids a lot! I behave like one to preserve my innocence. I treat others like one to make excuses for them when they offend me and to share with them whatever information I have descriptively and patiently. I expect nothing from others, so, when I get, I am very appreciative. I dream really big!

How about you Masha?

Sometimes life presents obstacles, teach the kids to jump over them!

Hi @SholaIB ,

Thanks for your greeting on me. I most enjoy the attraction part. Every country has its unique attraction method and attraction places. You can engage more travelers from this part. I haven’t visited any other country yet but I traveled across my country so many times. There are so many beautiful places that I have seen. Like Kandy Srilanka, Ella Srilanka, Yala National Park, and The Colombo main city. Whether you are a foreigner or a local you can feel the best of the best Srilankan hospitality same way. I like natural places that are cool, calm, and beautiful.

Reviewing is my favorite part. Because you can add your memos with the review and you can give a clear picture of the place to others.

Thank you again,

Cheers.

I see you’ve had many message to reply to so thank you for taking the time to reply to my question @SenalDilanka . Can I ask why Python is your fave? I’ve been having a go at some serious programming over the last 12 months and I can’t say that it’s enjoyable. Challenging and interesting yes but enjoyable hmmm, I don’t think so lol.

Hi @SenalDilanka

Great to know that you use so many languages.

I too love all of them except Java which I never got an opportunity to learn.

My favorite is C++ though.

Please check my coding blog, and hope you find it interesting:

Hi, @MashaPS . Thanks for starting this post.
For the umpteenth time, I will introduce myself. For those who already know me, I am proud to be your friend. For those who haven’t, how about we hang out somewhere in Indonesia? Ok, here I am :

  1. Name: Brian
  2. Location: Kuningan, Indonesia
  3. What I love about being a Local Guide: Wherever I go, it’s always fun to meet new people and new Local Guides who always provide updated info on the places I visit. Starting from my hometown in Batu, Malang, Ternate, Banyuwangi, until now I am in Kuningan. Differences in customs and culture are not a barrier, instead they make me more familiar with diversity. There I always find great people who are down to earth, taking care of nature selflessly.
  4. My favorite thing to explore: Definitely nature tourism, where I can feel peace and love. A place where I can walk alone without feeling afraid, and enjoy the sound of nature that has not been affected by pollution. A place where I always feel at home inviting my family to spend the night. A place where I never tire of inviting my community to explore
  5. Fun fact about me: I love my family. That’s why I invite my wife @Annisa1208 and children to participate in community activities and contribute to Google Maps. I also like to get other families to join in. We always miss our meet-ups, it’s just like a big family gathering.
