Hi everyone! Welcome to Local Guides Connect. Please take a moment to introduce yourself to our community.

As “Introduce Yourself” threads can be lengthy, we start a new one each month and lock past threads. If you’re new, please use this thread to post your “I’m new” or “Hello world” posts. We’ll merge any posts we find elsewhere with this thread to keep things organized.

3. What I love about being a Local Guide: I have always enjoyed helping people with tips on what places to visit or where to eat. The Local Guides program gives me a more meaningful way of helping not only people who are looking for a certain place but also local businesses through my contributions.

4. My favorite thing to explore: I’ve never been a fan of big cities, I’d rather visit small towns in the countryside where I can also be in touch with nature. I particularly enjoy visiting small businesses and talking to local people.

5. Fun Fact about me: I really love exploring natural sites such as mountains, caves, lakes, rivers, and so on, so I consider a 20-40 kilometer hike in the mountain a good weekend. Even though I’m a dedicated sports person, I’m also an avid reader, reading around 30+ books а year. =)

It’s been many year since my first review on Google Maps, from then, many things have changed in the social media environment, but there is something that is still remain untouched, and that is my passion for sharing.
I have the luck to live in Milan, one of the most international city of Italy and also the most advance on technology side.

Since I’m originally from Rome, it usually happens that many colleagues and friends from all around the world, ask me to be their guide or to suggest them where to eat once in Rome. In many occasions my friends told me that my enthusiasm in sharing the culture and the beauty of my country convince them to come back in Italy more often.
I love to share because I believe the world is too big to been see just with one life, and helping people by sharing the experience for me means to inspiring them of doing the first step (the most difficult one) of their journey by giving the glimpse of the sensation that they will live once there.
Traveling is the best gift that everyone should do give to himself, and once you have explored new places or a new cuisine, you will come back richer then once you left home.

Hello everyone,

I have edited my previous post (where I as for asking for suggestions for posting) to an Introduction post.

Name: Suprabha.

Location: Miramar, Florida (Originally from Bangalore, India) .

What I love about being a Local Guide: I love that it’s a judgement free zone. I am not a professional photographer but I like to share what I see with others. I am a vegetarian foodie and I know how hard it is to veggie heads to find something they like and I want to help them to find good stuff without the frustration to search for them. I don’t think there is no better platform than the local guides program.

My favorite thing to explore: It doesn’t matter if it’s a downtown, beach or mountains I love them all. I like fine dining experience sometimes but I prefer food from a local place which has history.

Fun Fact about me**:** My name means the first ray of sunshine in a sunrise. I am sweet tooth so hit me with your suggestions to must have desserts.

Hi and welcome @Kanasu (Suprabha). Firstly you’ve posted your question under the Travel Topic however I suggest that if you move it to the How-tos Topic and perhaps change the title to “Introduce yourself” you will likely get a better response. It’s really quite simple to move it, just edit your post and select the How-tos Topic instead of the Travel Topic. Anyway here is a quick reply to your questions and I do hope it helps get you started. If you browse the posts in the different topics (e.g. Photography, Travel, Food & Drink etc) I think you will get a good idea ofthe kind of posts considered helpful but I would just write about your travels (under the Travel Topic) and the foods you enjoy and come across (under the Food & Drink Topic). I usually do a quick search to make sure I don’t repeat a post topic that someone else has written but don’t worry because if you do duplicate a topic the moderators here are on the ball and if necessary will move your or merge it with the earlier post. I would also suggest that you read posts like 14 helpful tips for using Connect by @TraciC, How to write a great post by @AdrianLunsong and others like Helpful tips for writing a good post by @HiroyukiTakisawa

What I love about being a Local Guide: Many years ago, I got familiar with Google Maps and Local Guides. All the while editing places, sharing photos and adding places to Google Maps, I’ve always been wondering why I should help Google Maps while Google will not pay for this effort?

This year spring, I traveled to Tehran and due to not being familiar with the city of Tehran, I had to use Google Maps for navigation and finding my ways all-around to search for addresses, to find good restaurants, and to contact the places I had chosen to visit and to coordinate the phone with them.

In this trip, I realized that all the things that I did for Google Maps are not as much as the services I get from it. In other words, we’re not just helping Google Maps but helping each other, and the Google Maps Team has created a built-in infrastructure that we can use to help each other.

The features that Google Maps provides to its users, such as creating different maps for categorizing your personal favorites, is very helpful. I made two maps on this trip, first the map of the places of interest and historical monuments, and second the map of my favorite restaurants, and whenever a map was needed, by choosing that Google Maps features such as reading other users’ reviews, using a phone number to coordinate with the destination in the comment, to see the destination photos and ultimately navigation.

My favorite [place/thing/cuisine/other] to explore: I love Deserts and I like to speak with you about Deserts of Iran and to share with you Tourist Attraction of Iran in Connect. I like to talk about foods, so I’m writing about delicious Iranian foods.

Fun Fact about me: I am an ectourist. I always travel, especially to nature and offroad. I see all of the Tourist Attraction of Iran, Mountains, Seas, Waterfalls, Deserts, and Etc. I traveled to more than 12 countries in the world.

What do I love about being a Local Guide: I love the fact that the voluntary contributions of review’s, photos, adding of places, checking the facts I make to Google maps is helping millions of people in the world day by day! This brings me great excitement and happiness!!!

I love to share: I love adding places that are not yet listed on the Google map, so that when other people try to find that place, they can locate it easily. Whenever I visit a place, I like leaving a helpful review about the place so that other people can have a view about the place. In other words, I love dropping the pins.

How did I hear about Local Guides: I downloaded the Google maps app and when I saw the start contributing icon, I clicked and started doing my part to make the world a easier place for people to locate with adequate and reliable information.

Fun Fact About Me: I love travelling, visiting tourist attractions, eating and driving true remote areas to discover nature at its best.

3. What I love about being a Local Guide: I’m starting to like making lists. I like telling businesses positives, I like telling them what they’re doing right. Businesses of all sizes need to hear “the good”, not just complaints. I’m a very positive person and while I wish I could blink my eyes and change human nature to be praise-oriented instead of complaint-oriented, I know I can’t do that, so writing reviews on Google Maps, for me, acts as that “substitute”. How I heard of Local Guides: I don’t remember. Someone discussed it in-person with me in 2015 but I don’t think she’s active anymore but I believe I had heard about it prior to 2015.

4. Favorite thing to explore: This neighborhood. I’ve lived in this area (see 5) for nearly 11 years and I still don’t know everything.

5. Fun Fact about me: I’m extremely social and I believe in “in real life” social. Years ago I grew snapdragon flowers from seeds. The more interesting facts are in the neighborhood actually. It’s known the world over as “Times Square” Manhattan (where the New Year’s Eve ball drops), and most people assume it’s just big corporations here. 3.My favorite challenge about being a Local Guide: Still in Program about years, but the information on Google Maps helps many groups (local business, customers) people searching for accessibility places.

And, of course, I like the access to new resources.

When I need a information in Maps and for many times receive excellent results, I think: I can’t believe, this amazing program it’s a freeware, without payment or financial donations? Isn’t a shareware?

Yes, it’s really great and free Program.
Then I figured out, no way, I need to contribute, give this services back.
