International Wheelchair Day 2020!

Today is 1st March 2020, the International Wheelchair Day. The day to make awareness to spread mobility facility services and sharing the advocacy about the struggling of Wheelchair users globally. This day is celebrating very warmly internationally as I noticed. So, I join the day to celebrate it as a Local Guide!? Happy Internation Wheelchair Day 2020!

Facts about International Wheelchair Day 2020

  • Steve Wilkinson is the founder of International Wheelchair Day. It was founded in 2008
  • It was founded to provide a platform for wheelchair users to celebrate the positive impact a wheelchair had on their lives
  • There are over 5.5 million wheelchair users in the USA, according to the census report.

Last year I introduced a different initiative by the Youth Volunteer organization in Bangladesh that what they did. It was about - Free Wheelchair Service - An initiative by the Youth Volunteers.
It was an inspiring story and our fellow appreciated their activities. Today on this special day I want to share about my another inspiration.

On this day, I want to introduce a Wheelchair hero in Bangladesh and the founder of the Dream For Disability foundation. He is Md Hedaetul Aziz the first Bangladeshi Wheelchair Cricket team founder. His wheelchair cricket team won the tri-nation Wheelchair Cricket Championship which was held in India last year. He is also struggling for the right of disable community in Bangladesh depending on his wheelchair. He has lots of national and international awards and achievements for his activities for the disabled community. He wants to make disability into the ornaments. He also appreciates Google Maps Accessibility features and its services. As a Bangladeshi wheelchair Hero, he also wants to join us in mapping Accessibility in Bangladesh. He is my inspiration for mapping accessibility in BANGLADESH.

As a Local Guide, I have celebrated the day with mapping accessibility in my area. Answering wheelchair related questions, adding ramps photos and editing maps. The day I have passed with a busy guiding schedule- adding new places, edited some places, photos and answering questions although it was my working day!

As an Accessibility Champion of the Local Guides Community, I tried my best to celebrate this in my own way.
I hope Local Guides will join here in this conversation to celebrate the day by sharing what they have done today and can also introduce us to a Local Accessibility hero who makes impacted his disable community.
@InaS @sonnyNg @Ivi_Ge @ermest @EmekaUlor @KarenVChin @ShahMdSultan @Mohammadalauddin you all join this thread.
Let’s make a better Accessible world together. Happy Internation Wheelchair Day!!

I would like to tag here some of our Accessibility Champions to know how they celebrated the '‘International Wheelchair Day’. I hope they will join us and share their story.

It would be more helpful if our champions share their opinions about the day and the impact of mapping accessibility for wheelchair users.

Well said brother. We need to do more to transform this part of society into wealth.

If we can take them (the disabled) forward, our country will move forward.

Keep it up
