Last weekend in my university we organized an event called “Platos típicos” (typical foods). And the exchange students had to organized between themselves to put something in their country table that represente their culture.
For example, brazilians brought “pan de queixo”, the mexicans brought “elotes”, etc.
There was people from all over the american continent, like Columbia, México, Argentina, Brazil, U.S, Uruguay and Ecuador, and then from Europe, like France, Germany and Spain.
Every semester we do this and it’s a very funny afsternoon because we play games, and we see Argentina’s typical dances and music. Also it helps with the integration between the students, and you can make friends from all over the world because everybody want to talk there! It’s a beautiful enviroment!
I personally was an exchange student last year in Mexico and I loved this kind of events because it allows you to know all the students from different countries.
I’m impressed of how much you can learn just talking to a person from another place, no matter how different or similar his culture would be with your own. Because even the smaller difference make you think in what things you’re taking for granted. And that helps you open your mind a lot !!
Hope we see people from more countries next semester !!
