International day for women and girls in science- India

Hello my dear connect friends,

Hope you are doing well and had a fun-filled weekend.

I present this post on the recent occasion of International day for women and girls in Science. I take this opportunity to take you through the most influential women scientists from India who have made us all proud.

I would like you all to recollect the covid period with this post. What a life-changing period it was for all of us, wasn’t it? Well, it was the time when many of us realized the potential of Biological Sciences, do you agree? I bet very few people had heard words like RT-PCR (Real Time Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction), Antigen, Antibody, Ct value. From India, the first kit developed for Covid-19 antigen detection was by Dr. Minal Dakhave Bhosale, a Research and Development Chief from MyLabs Discovery Solutions, Pune. She delivered a daughter the day after she submitted the kit to the National Institute of Virology, Pune for approval. Minal’s dedication to her work and our country was truly inspiring.

Dr Kiran Muzumdar-Shaw is one of the strongest personalities of women leaders in India. She is a well-known entrepreneur who is the founder of Biocon. She is known for receiving an Othmer Gold medal for her contribution to Science and Chemistry.

Although we see and hear a lot about women in different fields the actual numbers are yet to claim equality. The main objective of this celebration is to promote equal participation and strengthen the contribution of women and girls in Science and Technology. There are many examples of women and girls in science who have kept the nation before their priorities. While Georgia ranks number one in women contributing to science, many other countries have shown better science management due to the involvement of women, for example, covid protocol management in countries like Germany, The Netherlands etc. More than anything, I feel the dedication of our women and girls in science has greatly contributed to their efforts to reach greater heights.

Being a synthetic biologist, I would like to take this opportunity to share my small contribution video during covid which was well appreciated by Reliance Industries Limited and was also highlighted on JIO platforms across multiple site locations.

With this, I would like to encourage our connect contributors to please encourage women and girls not only in science but wherever their passion belongs. The small support from the surrounding can move mountains! I hope you guys enjoyed this post as much as you enjoy my travel posts.

Happy reading!

Outstanding post @Smita_Patil . Yes Covid-19 is a life-changing period. Yes I totally agree that Biological Science has great potential and we realized it due to Covid-19. I read about Dr. Minal Bhosale and I am really amazed by her dedication. Hats off to her. I never heard or read about the terms which came out popular during covid-19. Really women have a great power to bring change in society. Very nice written post.

Also, I want to quote the lines by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar said," I measure the progress of a community by the degree of progress which women have achieved" which perfectly applies here.

Lastly, I wish to remember Krantijyoti Savitrimai Fule who opened the first school for Girls of all communities in India at Bhide Wada, Pune in 1848 by facing opposition from many people/ communities. Because of her, today we have got a very much talented and dedicated woman like YOU in our society and i must appreciate you towards your dedication to serve nation through your duty in your covid-19 period. I am really proud of you. Keep it up.

Thank you so much for sharing such a great post with us.

Thanks @Rohan10 for your response. I truly agree to what quote you shared from Dr. Ambedkar said about the progress of society. As we say, when woman is educated, she educated entire family!

We are truly fortunate to have witnessed such a steep progress in women empowerment in India specially when few of the countries are far ahead of us. But anyway we are nowhere behind at the moment!

Thank you for your appreciation :slightly_smiling_face:

I really like your post @Smita_Patil

I am a woman who has worked 41 years in two dental clinics. I am now happily retired.

My parents chose that my brother should go to school, while I started working at the age of 14/15. Two years in a garment factory that I escaped from and then luckily I got a job at a dentist. I worked, studied, got married, had a child, divorced when my son was 3 and lived alone until my son was 18. I was lucky, but I struggled a lot.
The world is changing and I recently read an article on the crisis of the male and the evolution of the overtaking woman.

I hope we will find a good balance between male and female.

Thank you for sharing this post and very inspiring.
