Inside and Out

Sharing the internal space and hidden features of places I visit, is my favourite thing to add on Google Maps. Being able to see what a restaurant looks like inside before I get there, quite often helps me decide what to wear.

Getting directions to places is only the beginning of the Google Maps experience. Being able to scroll through photos of what the place looks like inside, puts my mind at ease before I get there.

Knowing what to expect is a huge advantage, and I use these photos to help me feel calm and confident.

When I was a little girl in the 70’s, my dad gave me a little camera and I haven’t stopped taking photos since.

My family and friends are used to me gathering them all up for a big group photo or selfie. They are also used to me lagging behind to take photos of the pretty flowers we walk past. Thank goodness for Location Sharing on Google Maps because I often look up after taking my photos and discover I’ve lost everyone. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

I enjoy uploading some of my photos on Instagram, so adding photos to Google Maps, was a natural extension to my creative process.

Somebody once asked me, “What do you do with all these photos you take?” I told them, that I upload the photos, along with reviews, to Google Maps to help others. It wasn’t until I was invited to attend Google’s Local Guides Connect Live 2018 event that people realised what I was doing had a real impact on the world around us.

I will keep taking photos of the places I visit, and uploading them to Google Maps because I know my contributions are making a real difference to people’s lives all over the world.

Google Maps makes the world not so scary.

What’s your favourite thing to contribute on Google Maps?

I also love creating and sharing lists on Google Maps, with friends who ask me for recommendations.

Here is my latest list on how to Eat Like a Greek in Sydney.

My parents both migrated from Cyprus to Australia when they were young, so Greek food is my favourite food. Follow along on my journey to find the best Greek restaurants around the globe.

Great post Penny! Never though that inside pictures can help people decide what to wear - and they do!

Thank you very much @Mallewis you are very kind.

@PennyChristie Lovely post …Your energy is as awesome as your Application video which I gave a thumbs up👍

Nice read really. It did resonate with me because when I was young my father had a camera and I used it and started my skills in photography…

Good to get connected… Cheers

For me, @PennyChristie , Kid and dog related items are automatic Items I like to add on Google Maps because they personally impact my life.

Food photos because it gives me great joy. I, too, slap hands (love your video!) and tell my dining companions to not touch or eat anything until I am done. My family knows especially. My kids say “mommas working.” I’m good at getting all my photos in a restaurant completed in less than 5 mins tops.

So excited to see again in November!

Cheers,

Karen
