Infant Jesus Church, a Catholic Church built in Rose Garden, is a famous church located in Vivek Nagar, Neelasandra, Bengaluru 560047 which has an interesting fact or story behind its establishment.
Rev Father Paul Kinatukara, the Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Church, felt the need for a separate parish for the areas around Somanahalli and by divine power, the Rose Garden was the destination.
The Priest prayed incessantly to the Infant Jesus of Prague and it became possible to procure the Rose Garden.
On April 18, 1969, the foundation stone for a new church was laid by the then Archbishop of Bangalore, Rev Dr S Lourduswamy. In 1971, Rev. Father L Peter was appointed as the first Parish Priest of the new church who took steps to celebrate Holy Mass on the newly acquired land, brought the statue of the Infant Jesus from the Sacred Heart Church and installed it in an old tent and thus began the “Tent Church” which lasted for more than eight years. The area around this church was not developed yet devotees kept coming continuously. Eventually the Development Authority waived all charges and approved the construction.
In 1979 His Holiness Dr. DS Lourduswamy dedicated the new Infant Jesus Church to the followers and announced the construction of a new building. The construction of which is expected to be completed by 2003. The Infant Jesus Shrine adjacent to the church was opened to devotees.
The wishes of the devotees continued to be fulfilled as the Divine Child and devotion to the Infant Jesus has become widespread and the Infant Jesus Shrine is now renowned as a place of pilgrimage, miracles and divine consolation not only in this State but throughout the country.
