Indonesian Single Origin Chocolate

Hello Local Guides! I’m pretty sure that almost everyone I know here are fans of chocolate. Chocolate is a mood booster. Many people find eating chocolate promotes positive feelings. Chocolate, whether it is solid, liquid, dark or milk, makes us happy. Do you know that Indonesia is the world’s third largest producer of cocoa beans?

I want to introduce Pipiltin Cocoa, one of the best Indonesian chocolate producers. Pipiltin use cocoa beans sourced from several regions in Indonesia, including Aceh, East Java, Bali, Flores, and West Papua. They work with the local farmers to help them improve their production process and increase their income. The good thing is we don’t have to travel to all over Indonesia because Pipiltin provides Indonesian single origin chocolate. They harvest cocoa beans in one region and use only those beans to create each of their chocolate products. Each cocoa bean used has their own characteristics. For example, cocoa beans from Bali have fruity and caramel flavors, while cocoa beans from Flores have coffee and orange-like flavors.

I have purchased Pipiltin’s chocolate products a couple of times from online store, but I have never visited their offline store. Last weekend, I went to Grand Indonesia shopping mall and paid a visit to Pipiltin Cocoa outlet. There are many selections on display such as chocolate bars, chocolate drinks, honeycomb chocolate, cookies, and fudgy brownie premix. I bought four pieces of chocolate bars and a marshmallow dark chocolate soft cookie. Pipiltin’s chocolate bar varieties include macadamia nut, seasalt and almond, caramel crunch, coffee bean, and potato chips.

I just found out they have two outlets in Grand Indonesia. Both are listed on Google Maps, but turned out that there was no single review and photo of the outlet I visited. I took some photos, wrote review, and edited the inaccurate location detail. My edit is now being reviewed. Meanwhile, you can read my review here.

Overall, Pipiltin is very recommended. They offer Indonesian single origin chocolate products which are really interesting to try. And if you are more of a dark chocolate lover, then Pipiltin has the right chocolate for you. Their chocolate products mostly contain 65-84% cocoa and less sugar which results in a more bitter taste. I also love the packaging papers they used. Pleasantly simple and pretty with Indonesian flora and fauna illustrations.

What is your favorite local chocolate brand? Please share your stories in the comments below.

Hey @Lusianaa ,

Are you a chocolate lover, too? I wanted to say that your post is amazing. I loved reading your review and learning more about Indonesia’s single origin chocolates.

Do you have a favorite type of chocolate? Maybe dark chocolate or milk chocolate? What about white chocolate?

Recently I got myself a dark chocolate as part of a diet I am forcing myself to keep. In any other condition, I would get myself a white chocolate or milk chocolate with whole hazelnuts.

I am still curious what the taste would be as I haven’t opened it yet.

I love chocolate @Lusianaa and you’ll find plenty of other chocolate lovers here. Each time I’ve been to Connect Live I take a pile of Australian chocolate. The most popular to date has been the Caramello Koalas. Maybe if we both get to the next one we can swap chocolate :).

Thank you @TsekoV Yesss, I’m a chocolate lover too! Glad you enjoyed learning about chocolate from Indonesia.

I think I love all types of chocolate  Usually I eat the sweeter one like milk, white, and sometimes green tea chocolate when I really need a mood booster, and I also love to eat dark chocolate at any time.

Wow, is it a local chocolate brand? The packaging looks nice

Wah, aku baru tahu, loh, Kak @Lusianaa , kalau cokelat ternyata seperti kopi. Cokelat yang dari daerah berbeda akan punya karakter rasa yang berbeda. Di lidahku cokelat ya terasa seperti … cokelat. Tidak ada rasa fruity atau karamelnya. Hahaa…

@Lusianaa I would love to try Pipiltin someday. BTW, where is the world’s first and second largest producer of cocoa beans?

My favorite chocolate is Royce, dark chocolate. Have you tried it?

@Ant_Bad_Yogi The first is Ivory Coast, the second is Ghana. I haven’t tried chocolate from Royce. I know it’s a popular brand from Japan and a bit pricey too :joy: They have several stores here. Do they also open their store in Thailand?

Thank you for sharing this story, @Lusianaa
Btw, recently, chocolate with a high percentage of cacao is popular in Japan, but my favorite percentage of cocoa(cacao) for chocolate is about 60 to 70%

@HiroyukiTakisawa Oh I see. Dark chocolate is a better choice since it contains less sugar and comes with many health benefits

Hey @Lusianaa ,

I love eating chocolate on cakes, too. I love chocolate spread, but really try to stay away from it.

I don’t think I’ve tasted green chocolate, I guess this would be a Matcha flavor?

Humm, I can’t really tell the different flavor of chocolate like ice-cream. I love vanilla flavor in ice cream.

Chocolate is good and I love coconut chocolate from New Zealand, not too bitter!
