Indian Folk Meet

Last year, I have a great opportunity to attend a Folk Meet. I had a wonderful time interacting with my culture and the people who are carrying it. I am going to share with you the art form direct from India.

Allow me to take you to the Photo-Ride full of Fun, Elegance and Movements. ?

About:

Indian folk and tribal dances are simple dances, and are performed to express joy and happiness among themselves. Folk and tribal dances are performed for every possible occasion, to celebrate the arrival of seasons, birth of a child, a wedding and festivals. The dances are extremely simple with minimum of steps or movement. Men and women perform some dances exclusively, while in some performances men and women dance together… Each form of dance has a specific costume. Most costumes are flamboyant with extensive jewels. While there are numerous ancient folk and tribal dances, many are constantly being improved. The skill and the imagination of the dances influence the performance.

Lavani:

Lavani Folk Dance of Maharashtra (India). Lavani is a musical discussion. Lavani is a combination of traditional song and dance, which particulary performed to the enchanting beats of ‘Dholak’, a percussion instrument. Lavani is noted for its powerful rhythm and is performed by attractive women wearing nine-yard saris.

Jhijiya:

Jhijhiya is a cultural dance from the Mithila Region of the Indian Subcontinent. Jhijhiya is mostly performed at time of Dussehera (an Indian Festival), in dedication to Durga Bhairavi, the goddess of victory. While performing Jhijhiya, women put lanterns made of clay on their head and they balance it while they dance.

Jat Jatin:

Jat Jatin dance is the most popular folk dance of North Bihar, namely in Mithila and Koshi region. Usually, it is performed in a couple on moonlit nights in monsoons. The original theme of the dance explains there is a remembrance of the epic love story of the lovers Jat and Jatin, who were separated and lived in difficult situations.

But in contemporary times, through Jat-Jatin, many social situations like natural calamities are also discussed (like droughts and floods) and Other concern topics like poverty, sorrow and love.

Baul:

Baul or Bauls are a group of mystic minstrels from the Bengal region of South Asia, which includes Bangladesh and the Indian states of West Bengal, Tripura and Assam’s Barak Valley. Bauls constitute both a syncretic religious sect and a musical tradition. Bauls are a very heterogeneous group, with many sects, but their membership mainly consists of Vaishnava, Hindus, Sufi Hindus, and Sufi Muslims. They can often be identified by their distinctive clothes and musical instruments.

Actually seeing them dance is fun and eye pleasing. The diversity I have witnessed takes a really long time to put in words. After all, Unity in Diversity is what we have been known for.

Thank you my fellow guides and the people (not from google planet) for taking out time to be with me here.

Yours. ?

P.S. I am leaving with the girl who put me on my knees with her mesmerizing performance and her Wow expressions.
