India’s first electric train service is 100 years old today. It started on February 3, 1925, running between Victoria Terminus (now CSMT) and Kurla in Mumbai with an imported SLM (Swiss Locomotive and Machine). The train was named Sir Leslie Wilson. This historic route, now part of Mumbai’s bustling suburban railway, can still be explored on Google Maps.
From early electric trains to today’s modern Vande Bharat Express, India’s railways have evolved to be faster, greener, and more efficient. Whether you’re navigating city trains or planning long-distance travel, Google Maps makes it easy to check routes, schedules, and nearby stations.

@SarathUpendran It’s incredible to think that India’s first electric train began its journey a century ago today, on February 3, 1925, between Victoria Terminus and Kurla in Mumbai. Your post beautifully captures this milestone, and it’s amazing to see how far our railways have come since then. From the historic Sir Leslie Wilson to the modern Vande Bharat Express, the evolution is truly remarkable.
Thank you for sharing this piece of history and reminding us of the strides we’ve made in rail transport. Next time I’m on an electric train, I’ll definitely use Google Maps to track my journey, as you suggested.
