I heard the Pope declare, over a year ago that sexual interference by the church was a CRIME and should be reported to police! He said it was a dispcable crime and should be reported to police. He said that the Church wanted nothing to do with these criminals and they should be handed directly over to police. I personally know of a priest here in Canada, who was arrested and taken away to jail after the family called the police! This is good news! Why doesn’t the American or the Irish press repeat this statement given out by Pope Francis in a press interview?

Yes, there have been many arrests but because a lot of the victims here came forward as adults, a lot of priests, nuns have since died. The government here held huge inquiries and victims got to tell their stories and receive compensation, little comfort I know. A lot of catholics here have stopped practicing especially young people and there are very few priests. There are a lot of Good Priests! Much of the problems were caused by the Popes Bishops, who covered up for the abusive religious and sent them to other countries. At Mass today The Pope himself apologised for the church not getting involved and doing more. In fact, the victims blame the Catholic Church, previous popes and bishops, for covering up as much as the abusers! So I suggest you get your facts straight. The Pope met privately with victims yesterday. I shared this post of, Popes visit to Ireland, for Festival of families, healing of the church and shared photo of the joyous occasion in Ireland, I didn’t post it to discuss abuse but to share a positive occasion @ChristyFromCanada

I love my Priest.

I love my Pope Francis

because he had an interview last year in which he said that what these priests did, had NO PLACE in the Church. Pope Francis said what they did was criminal and it needed to be looked adter by the COURTS. And that these “criminals” had NO PLACE in the Catholic Church. The Pope said in that interview that everyone was responsible to report these priests to the police as criminals!

That’s why I LOVE POPE FRANCIS, because I heard him say that with my own ears. It was just wonderful to have him come out to the public and say this last year!

I cannot help itcif the press in the USA and Ireland did not report it but I saw thevinterviewvon Canadian TV.

I still love mycPope Francis, and that is why! Stop hiding the really good things he has said. Those bad priests are “criminals” in the full legal sense of the wors and those criminals should not remain in the church anywhere.

I LOVE MY POPE FRANCIS!

Hi @ChristyFromCanada Of course it was in the press in Ireland and in every newspaper up and down the country, I can’t speak for States because I don’t live there. And in anyway, what are you on about what the Pope says is not in the Irish or American Press? How do you know, you live in Canada! Once again I say, my post was about rejoicing the Popes visit to Ireland to celebrate the Festival of Families, a happy occasion and not to discuss what you turned it into Abuse in the Catholic Church. I take offence that you turned my lovely post and photos of joy into such an awful subject. For your information, The Abuse of children in the Catholic church in Ireland has been well documented, in the Press, on many T.V. programmes and in government… Connect is not the place to discuss such things. @ChristyFromCanada

Hello

I dont know how to make it better for you. I am so sorry that it happened that way! I did not mean to insult anyone!

I meant that it was such a wonderful thing that Pope Francis did when he said that it is a Crime against God and against the rule of Law. I only meant that the Pope is brave and he wants the Church to get rid of bad priests . They destroy trust. I honestly didnt mean to hurt your beautiful Post. You created a beautiful post with the Popes picture, surrounded by Love. That’s what I saw and I had no idea my post would hurt you or anyone reading it. I am so proud of Pope Francis and all I feel is love for him in my heart.

I am so sorry.

Truly

Hi Eire27,

Thanks for sharing with us about The World Festival Of Families and the Pope’s Francis arrival. Is this festival annual? I’m also curious about if you visited the mass, so you can share some pictures with us.

Just to let you know, I’ve relabelled your post and it now appears in the Local Stories topic section. This way even more people can enjoy it.

Hi @ChristyFromCanada I hope you are well. Its OK, just the whole child abuse story is so sad for me and for a long time every day in the news, for years it had stories of victims, it made me ashamed to be both Irish and a Catholic. Indeed on the Popes visit there were people protesting against his visit. The nuns were very bad too, they stole babies from unwed mothers and gave them away, for money the majority of babies went to America, never to be seen again. This was widespread in the 1950s and even movies have been made about this. I stopped going to church myself over this and child abuse. Hopefully the Popes visit will help heal some way and we, Irish won’t be ashamed of our country or our religion in the future, but its a long road. Thanks for your reply and I hope we are still friends. Best wishes, Orla

Thankyou so much for your reply, The festival of families is in a different country each time and the Pope attends. The festival was in a huge stadium in Dublin and lasted 4 hours, the next day the Pope visited a Holy place called, Knock Shrine in the West of Ireland then came back to Dublin’s Phoenix park ( largest park in Europe) where he said mass to 600,000 people . At the Mass it was announced the next festival of families will be in Rome, Italy, I think it happens every 2 years. Thanks for putting on local stories, I will post photos later, I wasn’t sure if people would be interested thanks @MashaPS

Hi @Eire27 ,

Thank you for the additional information.

I’m sure that to attend such a huge event with 600.000 people is something to remember for a lifetime. I’ve been to Rome, but I didn’t have a chance to be part of at a mass.

Actually you’ve shared some very interesting things. I’ve never known that the largest park in Europe is in Dublin. It will be great to see some photos. You can even write a separate post about it.

Hi @MashaPS Thankyou. Yes it is the largest public park in Europe, has lots of wildlife here where wild deer rome around freely and also it is the home of Dublin Zoo a large zoo and also in the park is the home of The President of Ireland. There are lots of walks and trees hundreds of years old. Over 30 years ago, Pope John Paul came to Ireland and said mass in the exact same place, the large cross was put up for his visit and people liked if so much it was never taken down and is known as, The Papal Cross
