Inappropriately removed reviews / Moderation on Google Maps

Dear all

Some of my reviews are inappropriately removed for no obvious reasons lately (the given reasons are not really making sense). I’ve tried to change them a little bit and tried to guess what is triggering the filtering, but with no luck. It’s quite frustrating.

I’ve tried every Michelin Star in Paris and every 3 stars in France but I m waiting to post the last reviews because i want to avoid writing a review for nothing, and getting stuck in an infinite loop of posting/reposting to finally having the reviews having no impacts and helping no one.

I really don’t see the reasons.

I m local guide level 8. I even got refused on some reviews that the app asked me to do (“you ve call such and such, please review” on my mobile app… to refuse them later on as non legit when it was just a sentence or two…)

Is my account now flagged ?

How could i know if it was the case ?

How to unlock my reviews that are inappropriately removed for once ?

Best and thanks in a advance for the help

Hi

I’m new in the group but have some experience with reviews and follow what’s happening with G’s algorithms across forums in SEO (= digital marketing stuff).

Reviews is a big topic as many business get fake reviews. That ranges from non-existing so called ‘customers’ to the competitor’s friend posting negative reviews. Google also constantly updates its algorithms, trying to catch up with these fake reviews. It is based on AI that tries to figure out what’s real and what’s not real. And there are also G’s guidelines that change over time. That’s why some reviews that were ok in the past, are not ok any more and are being deleted (automatically). The business owner can then ask for G to check it out when a (positive) review suddenly disappears, but very often this is of no avail. My reviews are very often not posted either (Level 9). So, either you are willing to rewrite it, or maybe just leave it and post a picture. Good luck.

Hi, @MichelinStarsChall . What type of email are you receiving that let’s you know your review has been rejected? Maybe you’ll want to read this post to understand how your situation may relate and see how you may submit a form to have your account examined for your issue. As long as the reviews abide by Google Maps policy, they may be able to help reinstate your reviews.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the support. Just knowing that I’m not the only one with a decent level (in your case more than decent :yum: ) facing this, is already a relief. So really thanks for that.

It’s frustrating because the goal was to post about the challenge (trying all the Michelin stars), so there are some restaurants with missing reviews. I’ll just think of centralizing somewhere else (IG, TikTok or even TripAdvisor). It’s already the case, but as my process is to first write the reviews and publish on Google Maps, and then post on social referencing the reviews, it was driving me nuts .

I find another process, and I’ll just post pics and videos and move on.

Thanks for the link. I’ll try it as soon as I hit enter on this reply. My understanding is that it’s going to be an ongoing systematic issue so I ll keep posting, I’ll keep complaining if there’s an easy way (I’ll check your link) when reviews are refused but I’m not going to keep Google maps reviews in the center of the process as there’s some unpredictability.

And yes, the reviews do follow the guidelines.

Hi @MichelinStarsChall

I took a look at your contributions.

Some of your photos are uploaded more than once. That could be part of the problem.

Another issue could be if you publish the same text on other platforms like TripAdvisor etc also. Then the plagiarism filter will kick in and block or hide your reviews.

You also could try not to have the #number at the beginning of your texts. The spam filter might pick up on that.

Finally, Google Maps is testing a new feature in France to notify users when a review is hidden. It seems that the filter is more sensitive and detect more spam than elsewhere (just my interpretation).

Cheers

Did no one suggests you use the form called Account investigation for contributions not visible on Google Maps if you believe that some of your contributions have been wrongfully unpublished.

That is actually top #1.

Best of luck

Your not the only one @MichelinStarsChall

As you can see it doesn’t matter what level you are @Kurt2day

I filled in the form in September, one month later my reviews were published. Then again disappeared. Have filled out the form again, still waiting.
I can’t complete any challenges because reviews aren’t showing therefore missing out on all the rewards.

Hi

I’m a bit surprised that in this group I don’t find a straight forward connection to all the stuff that is happening on the GBP. Because what we’re discussing here actually belongs 100% to the Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business). And that product is managed by the business owner (or a specific manager on his behalf) & Google AI. In the SEO world Reviews are currently the hot topic because of constant updates in the algorithms.

All the best.

Kurt

Hi all,

I am a level 9 google local guide and have some reviews not published even though I didn’t violate any guidelines. A while ago I could just wrote in the goole local guide community forum and some administrator would help me solve my issues. But that method didn’t exit now. I also filled out the form 2 months ago but didn’t do any checkup till today. There are 114 missing google reviews! I filled out the form again tonight and hope it will help. I write google reviews sometimes in English, sometimes in German so maybe it is confusing for the AI?
