For many local guides (like me) the common issue is that the badges don’t reflect even when all the requirements are fulfilled or sometime it gets reverted for no reason. Example: my fact finder badge reached to master and then got reversed to expert though I’ve more than enough edits. It’s been almost two years. I tried to bring it up here a several times and noticed I’m not the only one facing this. But it never got resolved.
The point is that your issue need to be clearly explained and fixed.
To do this is important that you write your own post explaining clearly what is going on.
In your case what I see is that you have 438 edits, but only 26 are considered valid edits for your badge. As the edits are “private” (visible only to us) I am tagging here @Giu_DiB for a check of your profile
Hello @SilviaMukherjee ,
Thanks for reaching out to us. As @ErmesT suggested, you should describe your issue, adding as many details as possible in order to help us verify the situation. You can edit your post, if you want, or you can add further information in a comment.
I also wanted to let you know that since your post wasn’t an actual idea, I moved it to the How-tos section, which seems to be more appropriate. If you want to post an idea, please be specific and follow these instructions: How do I use the Idea Exchange and what happens to my ideas?
Hello @SilviaMukherjee
I remember seeing a similar problem in another post around, six months back.
I find - Your profile badge shows 438 approved edits. Whereas, the fact-finder badge considers twenty-six numbers only.
Can you identify the nature of edits?
For example, I remember a discussion in that thread saying “Although tagging of dishes happens to be an edit, that does not qualify for the fact-finder badge”.
Similarly, the place for which we suggest an edit may become permanently closed.
Then the edit would not qualify towards the badge.
Further, edits can also become private, similar to reviews & photos.
That’s explained here
https://support.google.com/local-guides/answer/6225851
Reviews, edits or photos marked private by Google are in violation of our policies and are visible only to you.
Private reviews, edits or photos don’t count towards your Local Guides level.
If you can provide some more details about the edits proposed by you, that will help in knowing the exact reason for the downgrade.
Thank you @Giu_DiB and @ErmesT for your concern! As you asked to add more details, I did that already more than a year ago. But the issue remained unresolved. The badge was a master fact finder when I had the required edits and then one day it changed drastically. When it changed, I had almost 350 edit (now I don’t remember the exact digit but it was close to 350). After the badge got changed, I still added more and it became 438.
From that time I have been facing one more issue, I can not open my edits page to see the list of edits or place creation. Only the latest two are visible and the rest doesn’t get uploaded at all. And even if I add an absolutely valid place with proper information, many time it shows, “Google couldn’t verify your edit.” Well, that’s a different issue.
My sincere apologies for posting this topic to the idea section. Incase you need any more information, please let me know.
When edits you suggested get approved @SilviaMukherjee you should also receive an email to confirm that. Do you still have those? Then you could still see all the edits and check if they have perhaps been reverted?
Hi @C_T ,
Yes, I have 438 approved edits. And fortunately, those edits don’t include any kind of “tagging of dishes.” ![]()
If I remember correctly, I mostly added the information such as contact numbers, websites, construction/ambience of the place (i.e. wheelchair entrance, wheelchair car parking availability, kids friendliness, hygiene etc), if the place exists or not, if two places at a same location are consistent or not etc. And those edits got approved.
I used to receive those confirmation emails. When my badge got reverted I didn’t see any update of disapproval from those edits. It was more than a year ago (in 2019). Later (very recently), I’ve cleared my old mails to organise and save some space. I don’t have those mails now.
That’s a pity those mails are gone. And with the edits not loading it will be hard to figure out what happened/which edits this relates to @SilviaMukherjee
By the way: seeing 2 edits is still better than the situation some local guides with high volumes of edits are facing: not seeing the list if edits at all.
What to do, Gmail has this 17 GB quota (though I’m glad to get this 17 GB for free!)
So I cleanup my mails pretty often now.
No complaints about seeing only two edits.
The only thing was regarding the badge. You do something in a right way and get the recognition for that and suddenly one day it changes drastically. It could have happened gradually so that I could understand there is something wrong with the information I provided. And when it happened, I didn’t receive any email justifying the downgrade.
It’s not that I will stop sharing my journeys on Google map (I’ll be glad even if it helps only one person). It is a little demotivating to see that you don’t get what you deserve. I hope you understand what I mean.
Thanks for the clarification @SilviaMukherjee
Still one curiosity. Did you make these additions through the uncover missing info route?
For facts checked and uncover missing info,I have separate 592 approvals. I have explored every option given in map.
