I’ve attempted numerous times, with photos, to add the new restaurant “Uyghur Apandi Food” to the “Hong Kong Food court of Flushing 香港美食城 法拉盛” in Flushing, NY (37-11 Main St, Flushing, NY 11354). It’s been instantly rejected numerous times now, no matter how many time I changed the variables. I’ve used both the exact address of the food court (above), and the full address of the restaurant within the food court (37-11 Main St, #7 BSMT, Flushing, NY 11354). I’ve categorized it as “restaurant” and “halal restaurant” alternatively.
I took photos on location and even talked to the proprietor of the new restaurant to gain as much information as possible.
Considering this, I believe there’s an issue with whatever rejection algorithm is at work here, since there are dozens of restaurants in this food court, but only two or three appear to have been listed successfully. I’m trying to give these small proprietors more exposure via listing on Google Maps, but the system is fighting back hard. Anyone able to take a look into this? @GeorgesHR@TsekoV@RadieN@AngieYC
@kenchester2 Google uses variety of different factors in determining whether an edit is valid, but unfortunately, they’re not always accurate. There can be false positives where correct edit are not approved due to not enough trust level. Don’t be discouraged and don’t feel bad when this happen, and maybe you can try it again some other time.
Thanks for reaching out! From time to time, your edits may not be applied as we reserve the right to disable user generated contributions for individual business profiles and business categories to prevent abuse.
I have relabeled your post to How-tos, as there would be a better exposure of audience.
That’s interesting, @TsekoV ! So, Google Maps isn’t allowing anyone to add restaurants, or has put some sort of lock on it for now? Or more likely, there’s some sort of geographic block on adding restaurants to that specific food court?
Anyhow, it’s really a shame the algorithm doesn’t spit out any reasons for its auto-rejects as well. Could you flag this to them somehow? If someone is a Level 8 Guide like myself, you’d think Google would default to trusting our posts rather than distrusting them. Wanted to help out local small merchants in having a Maps presence, but I’m pretty close to giving up on submitting any new data to Google due to the random capriciousness of the algorithm, as they don’t appear to respect the time I spent gathering and submitting quality data to get to this level…
A bit of a rant, but I spend time going out to document new merchants and Maps is a stubborn, stubborn beast…
Could you please try one more time to add the missing place. Maybe you can try to add it by following this link and add the place by street name and number.
@TsekoV Just tried it again about 5 times, both from my account and another Google account for good measure. I did some experimenting: I removed the word “Food” from the name, in case the system is marketing “food” as a generic name that should be auto-rejected (whereas in this case it’s actually part of the restaurant name). I tried removing it as being inside the aforementioned food court. I tried just plain “restaurant” instead of “halal restaurant”, added the phone number after digging for it today on a subsequent visit (it’s near my workplace).
After all of this experimenting, I’m very confused why Google is making things so difficult. It’s obvious this place exists and I’ve provided copious evidence of its existence. I tried from other Google accounts too, so it’s not anything negative associated with my account as well. They really should have an “appeal” button for at least the Local Guides who have proven themselves.
