Images to Imagination

Have you ever been to a restaurant, looked at the menu and thought.

“This dish sounds good but will it be that great.”

or

“Shall I try something new today or stick to same old tried and tested dish. “

Well then you have arrived to a right post. I am also one of you, who always had these feelings and thoughts going around my head and I never knew how to answer it. The best you can do at these circumstances are to ask waiter/server what the new dish comprise off. But still it never answered my curiosity of how it will end up tasting and will I like it. Majority of the people choose the easier path of trying a tried and tested dish as chances of them going wrong are lesser than to choose something new (which you don’t even know how it looks) and ruin the whole day.

I always had this notion in my mind that food is not there to just fulfill your hunger, but it should also titillate all your senses. Any dish should sound good, look good, taste good, smell good and finally should feel good. But menus in all the restaurants just fulfill the first part of this requirement. There is no way a person can know about the taste, smell, look and feel unless he orders the food. I do understand why restaurants can’t put in images of every dish they offer. That will lead to a 4 page menu to a 20 page dictionary.

This is when I thought I should use Google Maps to fill up this caveat and add images to the imagination. When a person looks at a dish or a dessert, he/she at least gets a feel of whether he/she should order it or not. Look of a dish drives human decisions more than what the name of the dish is. (Quite evident from all the advertisement shown on TV) Hence anytime I go to a restaurant and try something new I make sure I click a picture of it and post it. So that any person can make a decision on what he/she wants to eat by a mere look at Google Maps. It also helps when review is provided with the dish name and some related pictures.

I would love to see in future a separate section in Google Maps which not only list the menu of the restaurant but also the picture of all the dishes. Till then I guess this service to humanity is needed.
