I'm curious: what is it like to be a connect moderator?

Hello local guides and moderators,

Out of curiosity, I really like to know what it is like to be a connect moderator. What are a moderator’s tasks and how often should they contribute, or such…?

I guess it will be exciting!

Will you explain?

Thanks in advance

Hi @Mehrn00sh and @AnjuDesai

You can find an answer in here: Meet the Connect Moderators

at the end of the post you can read:

Interested in becoming a moderator for Local Guides Connect? Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Local Guides Level 5+ who actively contribute to Google Maps and Local Guides Connect
  • Friendly and respectful community members who help keep Connect a warm, welcoming and informative place with their knowledge, accuracy and tone

There is no application or nomination process. Keep contributing and engaging with your fellow Local Guides and the Local Guides team will be in touch if you are selected.

Dear @ErmesT ,

Thanks, yes I have read that before, although my question is not how to become a moderator.

What is it like to be one?

Hi @Mehrn00sh ,

There are interviews threads regarding CMs.

For example, this one is with Stephen:

https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/Meet-a-Connect-Moderator-Stephen/m-p/1146683#M216880

And there are links to others as well.

Those interviews should give you more ideas.

Dear @YK1001

Oh yes , I will check them.

Thanks

Hi @Mehrn00sh

my bad, sorry

on the bottom of every page on Connect there is a small, almost hidden link: About this forum, with a “meet a moderator” section. From there you can reach our profile, and all the post with a “meet a Moderator” tag. Every month a Moderator is introduced on the community, through the Introduce yourself thread (for Google moderators) and a “meet a Connect Moderator”, like the one shared by @YK1001 about @StephenAbraham

Have a fun

About my personal feeling, this is something that I love to do, as you can see from some of the post linked here below on my signature. Interacting with the community every day is amazing, I am learning a lot from all the Local guides

It is a whole lot of fun @Mehrn00sh

on positive days you can go through posts finding people to help and helping them out

on lower days you service the community by hunting out spam and killing it or merging duplicates

the role has something for every day to make you smile

@Mehrn00sh we are Connect Moderators try our best to help keep Connect in order, by moderating posts, flagging inappropriate ones, answer questions as best as we can, and point users in the right direction if we personally don’t know the answer. Although our responsibility really lies within Connect, all of us also help out many local Local Guides communities around the world, through social media or messaging groups. Which usually also means pointing questions asked there back to answers in Connect and more.

As a Connect Moderator, we try our best to understand needs of others, be patient, helpful, in the process we make lots of new friends and learn many new things along the way.

All of us started the same way, we try to help others as best we can, (and one doesn’t need to be a Connect Moderator for that), and after being appointed as a moderator, we continue to try our best to be helpful. There are many many helpful Local Guides here in Connect who help contribute answers to questions, special thanks to them too.
