It is summer in the northern hemisphere and for some places, it has definitely been a heat wave. Unfortunately, this is becoming more and more common with climate change but what is one of the best ways to cool off? With ice cream of course!
In the city of Vancouver, we have a ton of ice cream options to choose from. Here are just three of favourites that I have had so far this year. And some of them even with fellow Local Guides.
This is a place with liquid nitrogen ice cream. You pick your flavour and they will use the ingredients and stir it up with some liquid nitrogen to freeze the ingredients in front of you to freeze it. This is essentially made fresh to order just for you to enjoy! This was the one that I had, it was lemon cheesecake flavour with graham cracker crumbs on top. They use actual cream cheese to make this! It was perfect way to end off a hot day.
This is probably one of my favourites, if not my favourite, in the city. With multiple locations, you’re bound to be near one! The have tons of awesome flavours to choose from and often seasonal ones to choose from. Their ice cream is known to be smooth and creamy. On this occasion, I had the fresh lemon flavour. It was extremely hot the day I went and I had just spent an hour playing volleyball outside, so I needed something a bit on the tarte side.
This last one is actually more known for their chocolate and cream puffs. But in the summer, they do a special sundae creation served only on Saturdays. Each week is different and you’ll have to come by early because they do sell out. On this particular Saturday, they were serving a mango matcha sundae with mango shaved ice, matcha ice cream, match swiss roll, mango compote and matcha chantilly. Mango and matcha were the perfect combo, just looks at how delicious this is. Thanks @Anthony_LG and @JenneferB for coming out and enjoying it with me!
@Shirley Thank you for sharing your favorites with us. My favorite ice cream for cooling down on a hot day is Yoghurt Ice Cream from Sfree. It’s a bit sour, a bit sweet, perfect for a hot day!
I would love to try all three of the shops you mentioned!
My favorite ice cream shop is, fortunately…maybe unfortunately, a minute from my house. It is called Dairio. They have soft serve ice cream and hard scoop ice cream flavors like toasted smore, banana pudding, rocky road, cookie dough, etc.
Here are my twin boys enjoying a soft-serve cone for their birthday
@Ant_Bad_Yogi : I love yogurt ice cream!! Makes it healthier too, or at least, I would like to think it is healthier!!
@JordanSB : That’s awesome!! A minute away is definitely fortunate. Your boys look like they know how to enjoy some ice cream for their birthday! How adorable!
@MahabubMunna ; Yes, there were some cake rolls in my last photo. It looks like your ice cream has some sprinkles in it! Looks delicious!
@ChanneLing : Thanks for sharing your favourites from Montreal! Looks like I got to get myself over there one of these days to try!!!
My ultimate favourite ice cream would be the pistachio with milk and white chocolate. It’s a huge bonus if it’s accompanied by a warm waffle! The ice cream place where they make it, Ice Cream House Afreddo in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, deserves its popularity among locals and tourists. They have more tart-y sundaes that you might enjoy, too!
I totally agree with you @Shirley , a great way to cool down on a hot hot hot European heatwave day is to have a special ice cream. On a very hot day in Spain last year I sat and tasted oh so many different interesting ice cream flavors in an amazing ice creamery. Being honest however, I like ice cream any day even in winter for example on say apple strudel
Hi @Shirley . Thanks for this delicious post. I was recently in Japan with my daughters and we loved visiting a place called Snowy Village in Harajuku to enjoy their shaved ice creations. After walking around in the and humidity all day, it was lovely to sit down in the air conditioning and enjoy these refreshing desserts. For me, the mango was better than the Oreo (which was a bit rich). The mango had juicy mango pieces surrounding a dome of shaved ice, with more fresh mango and shaved ice underneath. The metal bowl also ensured that you had enough time to eat the creation before it melted everywhere. Very decadent!
Nothing like an ice cream, any season, any time, I don’t have a cone right now but I promise this day isn’t over until I do I like ice cream so much I don’t have a favorite flavor, I change every time, in Argentina the best franchise ice cream is by far Cremolatti, extra creamy and tasty. Thanks for sharing @Shirley !
@Ant_Bad_Yogi : Yes!! I’m all about enjoying ice cream and trying to think it is healthy!!
@DeniGu : Oh my!!! Your sundae looks amazing!! Waffles AND white chocolate? I’m seriously craving something like that! Looks like I’ll know where to find ice cream when I’m in Bulgaria!!
@AdamGT : Yes! Ice cream is the best cool down, great to hear that you got a ton of while you were in Europe. And you’re right, there’s really no reason to only eat ice cream in the summer and not in the winter!
@Victoria_v : Great to hear that you’ve visited Vancouver before! Yes, sometimes our weather isn’t very hot. And yes, any ice cream shop is always worth a visit!!
@DrShaunak :Butterscotch! That’s really yummy too, thanks for sharing!!
@HiroyukiTakisawa : The ice cream from M@chou with the toppings (I think that is mochi right??) looks delicious! I love it when it isn’t just ice cream but other things to enjoy too!!
@JustineE : Ooooo shaved ice is amazing in the summer too. I think I’m with you, I would prefer the mango over the Oreo too!! Thanks for sharing!
@Izumi : More delicious ice cream from Japan!! It looks so creamy and I absolutely love matcha on ice cream!!!
@kroza : Yes please! When you have some ice cream, please share!!! =)
