Until recently, I believed that all Local Guides were lonely wolves, a group of nerds that lacked anything new that they found on their way.
But recently everything changed since thanks to a local website I discovered a group of people around me, many of them known, who are Local Guides. Many of them share the same tastes and reasons why we do this.
Robert but the question “What does the Local Guides program mean to you?” or “What is the most interesting thing you have done as a local guide?”
When are you going to answer it?
At first, it was not very important to be a Local Guides since, in the absence of guidance and knowledge, I did not understand the great value that this tool has.
I am CM of a government institution and we are constantly touring the whole country carrying out coverage of activities related to the sector. But we have the disadvantage that for many of them they only give us the name of the place and we (my team and I) must manage to reach the destination.
Here comes Google Maps at stake. We do the basics that everyone would do: they look for the place in the app and head where it leads. It turns out that on one of many trips, we headed to a place that had the wrong location on the map.
Result: it took almost four additional hours to reach the destination and the activity was over.
It is just then when I tell myself, but I have Google Maps and I can put the exact location of the place for other people. It is since then that I am able to recognize the importance of the tool that I have at hand and that can positively impact and improve the experience of hundreds and even thousands of people.
From what I think so, the Local Guides program has had a significant impact on my life.
And I’ve realized that I love the way being a local guide allows me to help others. From my experience I would say that the ones I have helped the most are the end users who, guided by the map, can have a more efficient route to their destination or better yet, based on the experiences of other people, they can decide whether or not to go to a place.
But no, all Local Guides have helped significantly and in greater quantity to the owners of the places, especially to the owners of small and medium enterprises that do not know this tool so their places are badly located, they do not have the correct data oo Even worse, they are not even on the map. Reason why countless potential clients do not find them and they have no way of leaving any comments to help others make their decisions.
But more than giving many opinions of places, I love to upload photos. I think that many times people trust what they can see with a photograph that the recommendations they can offer although the latter are still important.
Adding places or modifying your data, commenting on my experience and uploading photos with details of what you can expect is in itself a task that fills me with satisfaction.
The impact that these places have had on me and on so many other people that I have managed to help, is the most interesting thing I have done as a local guide!
