I saved lives today
We have all judged one another in one way or the other recently instead of offering our help. Someone sneezes inside public transport, provide an extra clean and new mask if you have rather than looking at them with ”judgy eyes.” In the elevator, after touching the buttons, you removed your hand sanitizer from your bag, applied it on your palms, offer it to the person next to you. These and many others are things we can do for one another in combating the covid19 together. They are things we can do without even speaking with the person next to you.
The most basic act of kindness, sharing, gave me a sense of responsibility today, and I felt proud of myself today. So, as I stood in a long queue waiting my turn to enter the grocery store, I noticed several other shoppers who didn’t get a spot in the line because they either did not have a face mask on or did not wear the latex gloves.
Unconsciously, I snapped open the box of gloves and face masks I had bought before at the local pharmacy and started sharing with those who did not have. I eventually left the whole box on a table near the entrance.
It warmed my heart to hear their heartfelt appreciation but saddened me because the grocery store used to be a busy place full of people with kids running everywhere, anyone I saw today looked worried and somewhat sad. There used to be so much life and happiness in the air four months ago. I pray that all of you stay safe and have hope that this one, like the others, too, shall pass. Look out for your neighbor in any way that you can. Together in self-isolation and socially distant, ”we can.”
