I present to you... Filfla

This is a picture I’ve taken last weekend. The small island you see in the distance is called Filfla.

It’s a small uninhabited islet, 5 KM south of Malta. It has an area of only 15 acres, and has a cliff which is around 60 metres high. The only known permanent structure on the island was a chapel built inside a cave in 1343, which was destroyed by an earthquake in 1856 that also sank part of the island. A map of Malta dating back to 1798 shows a fort, a lighthouse and a monastery with a chapel on Filfla. Access to Filfla is not possible - unless it’s for educational or scientific purposes and visitors must get prior permission.

Thanks for sharing this interesting information about Filfla. Can you please, tell us what kind of scientific and educational processes are organised there?
