Several places I added a few years ago got suddenly deleted and cannot be seen on Google Maps anymore, why is that?
Two places I added and that got removed were two mosques in Bosnia (the names were: Džamija Zenkovići and Džamija u Budmilić Japri). Now it just says Unknown place (as shown in the picture below).
I would be thankful if someone could help me resolve this issue, or just let me
I am also curious who does actually approve places added by local guides on Google Maps?

Great questions.
When we suggest a new place or suggest an existing place removed there is an automated system taking care of our suggestions. It looks at the data added on Maps and what is available online to confirm the existence. Very rarely there is a human involved. Some categories are better protected than others. And the track record of the Local Guide is probably also considered.
Pins get removed for many reasons. Because a user thinks it is closed or because he/she does not like the place! This is of cause not acceptable. And the spam filters are constantly patrolling our actions. You may see reports where other LGs have been banned from posting reviews or making edits. Or a place got protected against all edits for a long or short time.
When a shop gets a new owner a new pin should normally be created.
Here in the EU Google Maps started notifying users when a review is about to be taken down because the place is no longer.

Thanks for the insights! It seems really odd to me that there is no human intervention involved when adding new places. What happens when a new place is added and it is pending or when an edit is made, will a human review it then
Nevertheless, is there any action I can take to get the places back?

If you consider the magnitude of Google Maps and the cost of labour it should no be a surprise that Google have automated most tasks using AI.
I doubt many pending places are put on hold to await a paid operator to check. It is more likely that the system will wait for further indications from other users or to become available online.
If your places were taken down because they are not eligible for a pin on Maps you are very unlikely to be successful. It take quite a bit of studying to know all the guidelines.
Very important pins with hundreds (if not thousands)of reviews and photos can often be recreated by staff.
Your best chance is probably to create them again. Please remember to backup and delete the original pics on Maps before uploading them again.
Also, you can encourage the rightful owners to claim the pins to prevent them from disappearing again.

Please be advised that I relabeled your post to How-tos because it fits better there.
To everybody involved in the discussion ( @MortenCopenhagen @MoniDi @Maximilianozalazar ). I went through my contributions, and now I see that as many as 15 places I added were deleted from Google Maps. Some of these places had hundreds of pictures, and I was not the one who made them, I just added the images. Now the places are gone, but just again the image was left saying Uknown place. I’
ll add some screenshots (were you can see also the thousands of views these images had)
