Back in the summer of 2017 my phone prompted me to add a review or some photos to Google Maps. I decided I’d try it out because I thought to myself: “What do I have to lose anyway? A few minutes of my day doing something I’ve never done before?”
My first review on Google Maps was of a summer camp in the northern NY Adirondacks that I worked at as a lifeguard. I worked there again in 2018. I applied again this year, and was accepted to work there again, as the boating instructor.
My second review on Google Maps was of my favorite beach and State Park in northern NY. That is also the place that I held my graduation party at and spent many summer days at while growing up.
From that point on, I was hooked. I was committed to adding a review of a place that I’ve been to and some photos whenever I got the chance. I took special care to take photos of almost every place I’ve been to recently, and it has become a hobby that I really care about.
My two favorite ways to contribute to Google Maps are by answering quick questions or adding photos of places.
I love that we earn points for our contributions and level-up over time…it has motivated me more than once to keep contributing.
Moving forward, I want to add as many quality photos of places as I can and make my reviews honest and concise.
I’m interested in connecting with like-minded individuals, and I was not aware that Local Guides had a forum until now. I used Google Plus avidly a few years before it shut down. I’m eager to meet new people here on this forum or in person if we’re from the same area.
