Ever been to an abandoned town next to a nuclear power plant? I have, and I love the atmosphere that hangs around there. The town of ‘Doel’ in Belgium is abandoned due to the planned expansion of the Port of Antwerp (4th larges port in the world). Eventually, the locals told me, the expansion did not get through but the people already abandoned their houses back in the 70’s - 80’s. As a result, now it feels like a ghost town, with remnants of the old days still there (bus stations, old playgrounds, the local school/church/hospital. The houses haven’t been touched since then & most of the belongings of the residents are left there. You can wander around and get some amazing pictures/video’s in the graffiti clattered streets.
