While hiking in the Derbyshire countryside near Curbar Edge, I came across an amazing sight.
I sat down on a rocky boulder to rest before I made my way home, as the light was fading and I did not want to be hiking in the dark, and to be honest, without any equipment like a torch, it would not be wise.
I had to do some backtracking to my car, which was a few miles away, so I had to check the map.
I had been hiking for a while, so while I was resting on the stone boulder, I noticed a lone Highland cow in the distance looking towards me. The area I was in was quite abandoned; there was no one around or any other animals, so I was wondering why there were no other cows with the Highland cow.
After a few minutes, I decided to check if the cow was OK and not stuck on anything like barb wire, etc. As I walked over to the highland cow, I noticed there was something in the ditch near where she was standing; it happened to be a small baby calf, and by the looks of it, the small calf had just been born.
Since I was the first human to see the small calf, I tried to stay where I was and not move closer, as I did not want to alarm the mother cow or the little baby highland cow.
