Seven years ago, I stayed in Singapore for 2 months and I explored the country and tried to live like a resident. I tried to talk Singlish (Singaporean English) and adapted Singaporeans’ normal life routine.
I rode the subways everyday and stopped from one end of the train to the other end. I loved exploring the country and it is also known as the second safest country worldwide. It is a beautiful country with disciplined residents. It is very clean and there are a lot of places that you can visit for free. But among all the great places to explore, my favorite attraction is the Gardens by the Bay.
It is free to stroll the Garden but there are entrance fees if you want to visit the conservatories, the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest and the aerial walkway. This is my favorite because the architecture is so unique and so beautiful. It looks so complex yet so naturally elegant. The Garden also has the best spot to see the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. I highly recommend this for travelers to Asia.
@sparekh Singapore is one of my favorite travel destinations! I even explored the Airport and ran through the sunflower garden on the rooftop. I will soon post about that! I have a lot of great memories in this country! What’s your favorite travel destination?
@Reisen Thailand is my favorite travel destination. I spent sometime in Phuket. Locals were so welcoming and it was one of the best vacations I ever had.
Wow you’re so lucky! Singapore seems really amazing and I hope I can visit some day. My parents have been there and they fell in love with this country. Everything looks really beautiful from architecture and buildings.
What’s your most favorite thing about Singapore? Do you have any tips from first time travelers, which might be good to know before going to Singapore?
@DanniS My favorite thing about Singapore is shopping and enjoying the scenery. One of the craziest but best places to shop for cheap is in Bugis Street, Singapore. I call it crazy because there are so many shops and they are not in order. Imagine visiting a 3-story building with small shops connected to one another and most of them sell different items from fashionable dresses, tops, pants, hair accessories, etc. I can spend a whole day there but not even seeing every shop.
My favorite spots for scenery are Gardens by the Bay and the Marina Barrage (a place not known to many tourists). I would just sit on the benches and enjoy nature or go to a spot with the view of Marina Bay Sands Hotel. Both the Gardens and the MBS Hotel have colorful light shows sometime at night. Marina Barrage is a very relaxed place. I like hanging out here especially going to the Green Roof just to watch kids and enthusiasts fly their kites or have picnics.

First thing to do after getting out of the Airport Area is to Get an MRT Map (Train Map) or Download the Map and buy a week pass or a day pass (EZ-Link Card) for the MRT.
Be Aware of the Rules. Smoking in the wrong area can get you fined for up to $1000!
