I Dug a Canal in New Hope, PA

George Washington had crossed here long before we dug the canals. In the early 1800’s I was a Chinese laborer skilled in the creation of clay bed canals. We dug a 1,200 mile system of canals to connect Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Lake Erie.

I love to walk along the water where the mules used to tow the barges to and from the Delaware River. I wanted to capture the experience. The most interesting part of time travel was when Google created a program to capture a 360 experience. I carried this little ball shaped camera on the end of a scepter out to the the tow path and shot a series of images of the walk along the water. After I uploaded the images, Google Maps somehow stitched them together to create a street view experience that was nowhere near the street.

It is really fun to add to this massive collaboration that is an interactive digital reconstruction of the world and it is easier than digging. Dig it.
