Around November of 2017, I went to the Philippines on a solo journey to cope and recover from losing my mom to just a few months before. I never knew about Google Local Guides having a community. I honestly thought it was just a place where one could leave feedback or help other’s locate businesses.
I became an Uber & Lyft driver when I got back. There was a lot of downtimes so I would scroll through photos and think, “Hey, I can share this tip because I remember the inconvenience I went through and I could prevent that by sharing my story.” That’s really why I do Local Guides. I am supportive of small businesses as well. I love finding hidden gems and sharing my experience through video, texts, or photos. Although, I am not a professional in either one.
It wasn’t until recently when I was invited to apply to this upcoming Local Guide’s Event where I realized that my contributions were actually being read. As someone who was once trying to grow a YouTube channel and Instagram following, I have never made a significant impact (organically). When I see that my reviews are hitting 30,000+ views, it just makes my day because I’ve spent hours on a project to get 7 views.
Here, I spend 7 minutes and actually create value for the community. The purpose is really connection! We are the guides that bridge the connection between the businesses and the consumers! The importance of the middle-man has never been so important!
I have just released your post from the Spam Filters. I would like to apologize for your post being marked as spam. Our filters run 24/7 and they can be a little harsh at times.
@JosephMayuyo …I’m sorry to hear about your mom but it’s great you’ve found a place where you can help and feel like you’re making a difference. Well done! I found you by doing a search on here for who else didn’t know about local guides as that’s what I just wrote about in my post…and I was curious. I know everyone wants to get an invite to the event but even if not, there is a lot of helping going on here (and I do want to go see your confessions videos…that still looks hilarious! LOL!) Cheers!
Nice to meet you! The “Confessions” series is on my Instagram. Nothing special because I couldn’t get every single rider to agree to a “verbal release and agreement” lol. I would like to go to the Local Guides event but I think I need to step it up. I have no idea how I got to level six, but yeah, maybe another year.
Hi, I also saw your post because I’m doing my connect live article and I saw that there was someone like me. It’s a crazy story, I didn’t know I was a local guide either, in fact I thought I was the only one who saw that google notifications LOL.
