I Am Not a Tourist, I Am a Discoverer

Today I want to share a post about some of the important things done by me as a local guide.I was born in a small village called Kisač near Novi Sad. We had only one primary school in our village and the only available profession for men was farming but since I was young I wanted to be a adventurer. I will never forget the first time I watched Raiders of the Lost Ark with Harrison Ford as the adventure seeking Archeologist; Indiana Jones. I dreamt about that movie and couldn’t wait to see it again. Growing up in a small village outside of Novi Sad, surrounded by agricultural fields, I longed for adventure. I wanted to be intelligent like Indie. He always knew the names of places I did not even know were on the map.

I’ve been contributing to Google Maps from the past more than 2 years. I am a Level 10 Local Guide. I open the Google Maps app on my phone practically every day, even though I rarely actually use it to get directions. It may not be obvious at first glance, but Google Maps can do a lot more than just navigate from Point A to Point B. Beneath all those high-resolution satellite images and color-coded traffic patterns hides a powerful search tool, chock-full of crowdsourced real-time data on retail stores, restaurants, professional offices, public parks and practically anywhere else you want to go. It’s no secret that Local Guides have an impact in the world. By sharing your knowledge and contributing to Google Maps, you are helping millions of people every day.

I’m pretty much old school. I identify as a nerd, and in my case, it’s 90’s styles, as that’s when I grew up. The term nerd’s meaning was getting fairly diluted in that time frame, over the last 20 years, and depending on who you talk to, nerd and geek may mean the same thing. The Japanese term of Otaku is related, but more toward the geek side with more social isolation. These days, a geek is someone with a fascination of some aspect of pop culture, often related to sci fi or fantasy, and they might get really good at what their focus is. If their focus is computers, they’ll get really good at it like a nerd with the same focus. Yes, I’m using one common definition of “geek” which I hope is fair. The original nerd was an outsider, though, a geek or a nerd in the modern sense is not so much an outsider, that kind of behavior is now accepted and sometimes glorified. Like, on the Simpsons, the comic book guy is classic geek, but as recent pop culture shows, it’s become more socially acceptable. Comic Book Guy recently met Mrs. Comic Book Woman. The episode is very funny, and even moving from a narrow point of view. Sometimes the old school nerd thing is about getting stuff done. Old school nerd is linked with technology, engineering, and math, while modern day nerd is linked more with pop cultural obsession . This is speculative on my part, based on experience, and there will be people with other opinions.

As a car lover, you don’t just love to drive—you’re passionate about the craftsmanship of cars and are curious about the engineering that goes in to each vehicle. Well, your love for cars doesn’t have to end in your garage. The need to go to museums isn’t what it once was. Rather than traveling cross-country to see a car, if you want information on that car, it’s instantly available. You can find out more information on the internet, than you’d even be able to learn inside of a museum. Auto museums, like some other cultural institutions, rarely turn a profit from ticket sales. And collections that were opened to the public by wealthy owners as vanity projects or tax strategies are closing as their benefactors get bored, tire of losing money or die. There have been success stories, however. Some museums have thrived by offering unusual experiences and a different mix of wares.

Education forms the basis of everything in today’s world including environment. Environmental Education imparts knowledge about the current situation and future prospects of nature. It teaches people to explore all the problems related to environment, and engage in wise ways of preserving it. The Earth is for all; therefore, only together can we protect it and take care of it properly. The quality of the surrounding environment represents a partnership between the kindergarten, school and the local community to achieve common objectives, such as environmental and social development and the environmental consciousness of citizens for a sustainable society. To maintain a healthy lifestyle, children should be educated in a positive way about the environment in order to create a sense of consciousness and participation, and to help them acquire a knowledge of ecological principles aimed at ensuring a balance between the health of the individual, society, and the environment. Day by day we see how nature suffers from the indifference and carelessness of people whose behavior damages our environment. We love nature and the gifts that it offers, but being thankful is not enough. Ever since the Big Bang, the Universe has been drifting and expanding. The birth and death of stars leave an aftermath of galaxies, planets, and even living organisms. Watch the Earth transform from a violent, molten rock to a supporter of life. Discover how astronomers use collective learning to put our planet in its proper place. And learn about Earth’s drifting surface that causes earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and continental “surfing”.

Culture is the lifeblood of a vibrant society, expressed in the many ways we tell our stories, celebrate, remember the past, entertain ourselves, and imagine the future. Our creative expression helps define who we are, and helps us see the world through the eyes of others. In children and youth, participation in culture helps develop thinking skills, builds self-esteem, and improves resilience, all of which enhance education outcomes. Cultural heritage broadens opportunities for education and lifelong learning, including a better understanding of history. Ontario’s cultural heritage sector develops educational products and learning resources in museums and designed around built heritage and cultural landscapes. Culture is important to the vitality of all communities. Culture helps cities to develop compelling city narratives and distinctive brands, with unique selling points for tourists and business investors. Culturally rich districts also enhance competitiveness by attracting talent and businesses. Cultural heritage is also a factor in rural development, supporting tourism, community renewal, and farmstead conservation.

The local guides program had a tremendous impact on me, especially the way i am looking at the places i visit. I’m really inspired by the community of local guides which is just like a family in which everyone has the same value, that’s really make it different from others or we can say The diversity in Community. It was all about my interesting things, feel free to share your impacts in comment.

Thank you!
