My Curiosity: Who can contribute and make changes to Google Maps?
My Mind: Obviously someone who works at Google. That was a dumb question. Idiot.
Now you all know who was correct.
A lot of you might feel connected with me here.
This is one preconceived notion that I had until one fine day, I got to know,
Oh No!
It’s ordinary people like me, who can actually contribute and make changes to the maps.
And since that day, I have been contributing to Google Maps by writing reviews, adding pictures, making changes, answering questions for people, checking facts, etc. Now, I have an even bigger reason to use my exploratory skills and feed my curiosity.
What I To Share The Most?
-
I absolutely love adding pictures of the places that are newly added to the maps and have no pictures at all. Even for the places which already have pictures, I just love to make people see the world through my lens which might even give them a new perspective of the same thing/place.
e.g. - If you visit this place, you might not be able to capture all the details of the ambiance. So, I added the pics of some things (like this stone) that you will only be able to spot if you visit here multiple times. -
Further, there are several unhappy owners of different businesses/shops/places because either the phone number or the website or the location or any of the details listed on their google maps page is incorrect. And this makes it difficult for people to reach them or their shops.
The smiles and the gratitude that I get to experience after correcting the incorrect details is something that makes me feel that I have accomplished something.
- Lastly, I try to include some facts and interesting stories of places I visit in the reviews along with my experience of that particular place. This attracts people, makes them want to visit that place and makes the place more credible. ( For example, this)
To conclude, I would like to add I am extremely happy to be a part of this platform. To experience this absolutely lovely vibe and the shared vision of building the community is something I want to achieve in the long run as well. And there can be no better way to start making an impact as soon as possible.
