Durga Puja is not only a festival but also a vibrant cultural tradition that brings together art, craftsmanship, community, and local businesses. Durga Puja in Kolkata was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2021.
Through this Local Guides meet-up at Chittaranjan Park Kali Bari, we will explore the preparations for Durga Puja in Chittaranjan Park from the perspective of sustainability and digital mapping.
We will look at how local places, artisans, idol makers, food vendors, small businesses, and other community establishments connected with the festival can be accurately represented and digitally supported through Google Maps.
Connecting with Earlier Connect Community Stories
Chittaranjan Park has already been featured in several Local Guides Connect activities and posts over the years, and this meetup will build upon that community history.
-
In 2018, @RashmiM hosted the Delhi Pandal Hopping meetup, which also covered Chittaranjan Park. The meetup was attended by @AmbrishVarshney, @LoveKaushik3, Prakash Panchal and @ReshamDas, as mentioned in @Praviarva’s recap.
-
In 2020, @anuragraj organised the Durga Puja Photowalk meetup in Chittaranjan Park.
-
In 2025, @curatorofmemory shared Bengali Thali at Kali Mandir, CR Park, highlighting the food and cultural experience associated with the area.
-
@Shalz has also shared about the street food of Chittaranjan Park Market, adding another dimension to the local culture and businesses of the neighbourhood.
-
@ShreyaMusings has shared about the Durga Puja festival of Chittaranjan Park, documenting the celebration and its cultural atmosphere.
This meetup will therefore be an opportunity to continue the community’s existing story of Chittaranjan Park—from pandal hopping and photography to food, festivals, local businesses, sustainability and digital mapping.
