Did you know that not only New York, but Budapest as well has its own Statue of Liberty?
The Hungarian Lady Liberty, holding the palm leaf of freedom in her hands, stands in the heart of the city, on the top of the Gellért-hill, looking down to the Danube river.
Due to its central position and the radial urban structure of Budapest, it turns up in the vanishing point of many streets and avenues of the city.
After noticing more and more of these constellations, like this one in downtown Pest, I have decided to collect as many views of the statue, as possible.
My research included geometric editing on the city map,
and methodical exploration of the streets pointing towards this landmark. There were easy ones: wide streets and spacious squares turning exactly to the right direction.
But sometimes the margin was very narrow.
And I stumbled upon many unforeseen views.
During the collection of the more than 300 images I found out that they show a real good representation of my hometown: the statue can be seen from the medieval castle of Buda,
and the busy construction sites of the southern suburbs.
It is also on the axis of the university campus.
Do you know, Budapest is city of thermal baths?
Its riverside is a Unesco World Heritage site?
Where old and contemporary blend into each other.
The nicest gift I got from this statue of the girl with the palm was the moment when I realised on a spring afternoon, when the wind carried poplar flowers, that it can be seen from the rooftop of my own house.
