湖南米豆腐 - Hunan Style Spicy Tofu

There are various Chinese spicy recipes made with tofu: for example, the Spicy Fried Chinese Tofu and the Grilled Chinese Spicy Dry Tofu. But there is another tofu recipe which is even more spicy and suitable only to people who really love spicy taste at the highest levels you may imagine, as this recipe comes from a region of China well known for having spicy dishes among the top of Chinese cuisine. The Hunan style spicy tofu is very tasty and it is very spicy: I suggest to try it if you are already used to other Chinese spicy dishes. As it is a vegan recipe too, it can be eaten by everyone, providing they really love spicy taste!

It looks absolutely divine @user_not_found ! I don’t really know which is best, the dish itself or your photo of the dish. This past month I started learning to eat spicy food. Before that, I feel like I’ve never had the stomach for it, but my dear fellow moderator, @AngieYC , opened a whole new world for me. I love vegan and vegetarian food, but I’m not sure if I would be able to eat this Hunan style spicy tofu without becoming a dragon. Was this your first time trying this particular Chinese dish?

@KlaudiyaG talking about this dish in particular yes, it was the first time, even if I am already used to other recipes from Hunan which are spicy the same. This dish is good if you really love Chinese spicy dishes but yeah, in order to enjoy it, you will surely end up drinking a lot of water too. This happened also to Chinese people with me too (we had soy milk).

If you, @user_not_found , ended up drinking soy milk, I’ll probably won’t survive the heat. Hopefully I’ll level up soon and when I do I’ll make sure to try Hunan, because it looks like something that I’ll be into. What are your other favorite Chinese dishes? Do you like dumplings?

@KlaudiyaG yes I like dumplings, even if my favorite recipes are similar to dumplings (not exactly dumplings), and are the xiao long bao and the Sichuan wonton with chili oil.

My favorite Chinese recipes in addition to dumplings, xiao long bao, wonton, tofu recipes, are surely the hotpot, the Biang Biang Mian with Chili & Soy Sauce and the Claypot.

I love xiao long bao, as much as Jiaozi. They are so juicy and flavorful that I feel like I can eat them everyday. I’m very intrigued to check the links that you’ve shared, @user_not_found , because just reading the names of the dishes that you’ve listed doesn’t ring any bells.
