How's Interesting Google Earth

Google Maps is synonymous with local guides to guide others as a guide, a place review or best recommendation. But have you ever used Google Earth? An interesting application for users to explore. I use quite often because my field of work needs it as a reference to measuring the green area on an estimate before the actual site.

What can we do with Google Earth? Let’s explore Google Earth…

This is Front Pages of Google Earth when you start it. From that image you can see icons on top and bottom.

From top we can see:

  • 3 horizontal lines.
  • Search
  • Voyager
  • Measure
  • 3 dots

From bottom we can see:

  • Pegman
  • 3D or 2D (available for some places)
  • North Point

Firstly, I will select Menu (3 horizontal lines). Let’s see what we will see.

Now we can see many choices for the new users. Let’s go through one by one from top to bottom.

  • Sign In - Log in with your Google account
  • Search - This is same with the icon on the main page. Use it to find a place
  • Voyager - Choose your own adventure
  • My Places - Save your favorite place here
  • Photos - See a photo of the place
  • Setting - Setting your Google Earth as you want
  • Feedback
  • Help
  • Tutorial
  • Terms of Service
  • Privacy Policy
  • Open Source Licences

Let’s explore more interesting…

I will go to 4 icons on top of the main page of Google Earth

  1. Voyager

Learn about the world. You can tour the world with a collection of map-based stories. Explore topics like travel, culture, nature and history. Just picked one and you can start your tour.

  2. I’m Feeling Lucky

Here you will see where the Google takes you randomly. Google will choose for you any places in the world with photo, names of place, history, area, population and many more… Let’s see where Google will take me out…

  3. Measure

I always use this icon when I get new site for landscape project. I use it just as the actual measurement

estimates before I go down to the actual site. Let’s see how it works.

Now, let’s see about icon of More options which is the last one with 3 dots on top of the right corner.

When you pick that 3 dots you could see there have My Location (will take you where are you currently), Share link (you can share your place to anyone you like) and Create postcard (you can create postcard instantly with your favorite place. Just picked one place and you can create your own postcard from that place)

And this is the last one. 3 icons below:

  • Pegman which is you can enter Street View by Google Earth
  • 3D or 2D means you can see view of surrounding place with both of them.
  • North which is you can tap it when the earth is going upside down and it will back to normal when you pick it.

That’s such interesting application right?

So I hope this article can help many people in the world to explore world with better and friendly. We love Google so use it as far as you can and explore it.

Hi @Nur85 ,

Thank you for sharing this cool post !
Maps and Earth are like twin siblings ! And it’s too bad many Maps users tend to forget it…
I mainly use Maps as my favorite GPS navigation while driving as walking. Also for anything related to traffic information, finding good addresses with related ratings and opinions…

But when I need more advanced informations, Earth is the weapon of choice !
What I like the most is the 3D advanced features and the measurement tools to calculate surfaces.

Thank you for your sharing @BernardTran . I realized that many people use Google Maps more than Google Earth. Yes I agree with you. I also love how is 3D working. That is awesome.

@Nur85 this is indeed a very useful post! I’m sure that many Local Guides have learnt at least one new thing about Google Earth. I have learnt about the measure tool, which I didn’t know about.

Thank you for sharing
