How would GLG help in Finland?

Hey,

I’ve been a Local guide for years here in Finland.

I have gathered 3 million views, but I have not helped in any other way here.

And the viewcount is bogus.

Everyone in my hometown has there internet connection and gps always on, which explains how I’m getting 3 million views.

People aren’t watching my photos, but passing through those locations with their phones open.

Why else would it take 10 years to get my first question?

And I have gotten no new subscribers.

Also, I don’t think businesses are interested in a local guide advertising them.

And I’m closing my email address because I’m a victim of fraud and identify theft.

So, why would I return to be a new local guide?

I will lose all of my photos and reviews as I close my email.

Hi @Brandnameora

What a lot of questions.

It is not possible to transfer your photos and reviews to another email account, as explained in my post
Do you need to change your email address?.

Photo views are counted as the number of times your image is pulled from the photo server. So if your image is the first image of a place it will be shown a lot of times. People do not need to click on your image to see it. A small version also counts. And if the Maps user does not scroll down to see your photo on a list, then it will still be counted.

Photo views are not counted just because a user passes by with their GPS and internet connection turned on.

I would suggest that you turn on 2-step verification. This will prevent others from stealing your id.

Many businesses are willing to pay shady agents to write and post fake reviews, so your notion that business owners don’t care is not always correct.

Feel free to ask more questions.

Thanks for your response, I appreciate it.

Wow, a 2nd Google support responded to me, by saying that I need the 2 step verification process here.

I actually have had it since it was released, but it doesn’t help me here.

My GLG email address is my real name, which is shown in Google maps.

And as a criminal sees it in my address, they have the choice to use it.

Even as my number inquiry is now put in secret, Google maps shows it.

So, unless I stop using my name email address, it will always tell criminals who and where I am.

I’m trying to hide myself at this point.

You can do postal orders if you know persons name and address.

The

The GLG has been somewhat fun, but I don’t know how it would help someone in Finland.

The only way I have found it useful, was almost 2 moths ago, when I checked what other GLG users had said about the plumbing company that I ordered to work on my house.

And I didn’t get them by googling it, I needed to go to Google maps to find it.

Okay, I have now proved to myself why GLG doesn’t work in Finland. Google isn’t using GLG photos here.

And won’t this post go away, when I close my account?

@Brandnameora

It would be very helpful if you would use the tagging tool when replying to someone here on Connect. Type @ followed by the username. Type slowly. Then we get an e-mail notification and you are more likely to get a prompt reply. Just hitting Reply does not ensure we get notified by email.

There is no need to have your real name shown on Google Maps. And this does not change your email address.

Your e-mail address is never shown on Google Maps unless you deliberately add it to your profile text. I’m quite sure that your issue can be fixed with the correct settings. Up to you.

Google Maps and Connect are two separate platforms. Any Maps user can add reviews and photos. Connect is where you can discuss and get help from fellow Local Guides - like what we are engaged in right here right now.

Feel free to ask again.

II can’t explain how much this helps me.

You are a life saver.

Now criminals can’t find more about me at my address on Google maps.

This most likely feels like I can stay with my current GLG account.

There’s the problem with my name email.

I want to keep it, but it is still known within the criminal world.

Could disconnected IMAP protocols work in my case?

Could it stop getting emails, but I still have the Gmail address and all the emails I have gotten?

You see, if my orahuhti isn’t in use, I can start saying that it hasn’t been in use since someday.

I’m very happy to see that you managed to change your name on Google Maps, @Brandnameora .

There is another setting you may want to consider: Restricted profile. Please read
