We love that all of you in the Local Guides community are continuously finding even more creative ways to stay connected with each other during this time. One inspiring and easy way to keep in touch with others in the community is to host a virtual meet-up.
Not sure where to start to host one? Check out @TraciC’s post on hosting a virtual meet-up. Once you’ve mastered hosting, read on for our tips on writing a great recap:
Review the basics
If you aren’t familiar with how to write a post in general, start here. You can also browse the Help Desk for additional information on different aspects of Connect.
Describe the purpose of your meet-up
Once you start writing your post, let the community know what the focus of your meet-up was and what motivated you to host it. Did you discuss accessibility? Make pizza together? Share your love of street art? Let people know what you covered in your recap so they can learn from what you did. If your meet-up was themed with a topic or theme you care deeply about, tell us in your recap.
Include different photos
Don’t forget to snap a picture or screenshot of your attendees to feature in your recap. If you take photos of your screen, be courteous to your attendees and let them know you’re about to take their photo. Photos don’t have to be limited to screenshots of you on your computer. Think outside the screenshot and ask attendees to contribute photos of their space. For example, if you’re cooking together, you could ask fellow Local Guides to share images of the dishes they created for you to include in the final recap.
Share something to look forward to
Will you host another virtual meet-up after this one? If so, let the community know your plans, so they can join your next one. If you already have it set up, be sure to include a link.
Publish on the Meet-ups board
We recommend posting your recap on the Meet-ups board to serve as inspiration for fellow Local Guides. You’re welcome to include additional topics as tags (you can select these at the bottom of the post before hitting “Publish”), but your main topic should be listed as Meet-ups to reach other Local Guides most interested in this type of content.
If you don’t want to host one yourself, keep an eye out for our roundups of upcoming virtual meet-ups you can join, as well as stories about some of the best meet-ups recaps we’ve seen. If you write a recap, you might be featured in a future post on Connect.
