As contribution to Gmaps is mostly seen as going out and visiting places, followed by a review and sharing your experiences along with photos. There is another side of this- Working from home.
Yes, we can do wfh as much as we can go out and share experiences and this post is about how we can best contribute and help people on maps just from being in your comfy blanket-
- Create Lists- This is a relatively new feature added to maps, so we must have visited many places without them being added to lists. We can create new Lists of already visited/reviewed places. For example- I have enrolled in many gyms so far in the Electronic City area of Bangalore City, India. But even if I have reviewed most of them, creating lists of same never struck my mind. So here I created a list- Best gyms in Electronic City. from the comfort of my bed. So what are you waiting for- Categorise your favourite beaches/destinations near a city/etc. in a list and share it with us.
- Modify lists- Not only creation, but we can add new places, update description/photos of places already added in existing lists from home itself.
- Reviews- By far the most important feature of maps- reviews. Adding reviews of places you missed out, with photos from your phone gallery is something which we don’t need to go out for. Not only are you helping people with new good content, but is also reviving your memories of visiting the place and moments you spent there. Go ahead, scroll through your gallery for us.
- Answers- You remember visiting some park or a school? Just give a google maps search and it will probably show you when you visited last time, along with a prompt of some quick (yes/no/not sure) questions.
- Q&A- You think you visited a restaurant a lot because it serves the best tacos and you are madly in love with their tacos. Give a google search for this restaurant and find the Questions/Answers section. Answer all questions or validate them if you can.
- Host a virtual meetup- Meeting in a person face-to-face is no doubt the best thing ever. Meeting a local guide, shaking hand and warm hug along with exchanging ideas, gossiping around. But when time and location constraints don’t allow, it cannot hold us back to do what we love. Meeting new people even if it’s virtually. Join some existing meetup or host your own.
- Personal message- Just drop a message to fellow members greeting them and to have a lovely conversation, make a big talk, not possible? make small talk then(note that people can be busy with other stuff so don’t spam them but a small hi with your moto for conversation doesn’t do any harm)
- Blogging- Make a YouTube video helping people with how to review better? or, how to click a good photo? or, tips on how to make clarity videos?
post an article about being a local guide, either here on https://www.localguidesconnect.com/ or another website, check out mine on medium- Why/How to contribute to Gmaps
