How to View Featured Lists for a Place?

On an Android device when I search for a city and scroll down, I can easily see featured lists.

However, when using Google Maps in a browser on a desktop computer, this information does not show up.

Any idea why this might be happening?

Thanks.

Hi @TusharSuradkar , the Google Maps app and website have different implementations, this means that one might have different functionalities that the other, and lack functions like this one. Even the app has different functions on Android and Apple phones.

I hope I was able to help :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks for interjecting @Jesi

I conclude that the display of a featured list is available only on an android device.

Hello @TusharSuradkar

It appears that you use the desktop Maps extensively.

The larger display and mouse support make desktops convenient.

However, many features of the Android app aren’t available on the desktop.

For that, you have to make a suggestion to have the app features on the desktop. But, many suggestions are already existing.

Nonetheless, there is a geeky way to run the Android Maps on the desktop. Yet, that’s not a convenient option.

Regardless, if we consider a Chromebook as an alternative to a conventional desktop, then that becomes much practical to run the Android Maps.

At the same time, please note that many features available on the desktop are not there on the phone too.

I made a list of all those and described that here sometime back.

One prominent example is flight as a mode of navigation is available only on the desktop.

Thank you @C_T for the in-depth and considerate reply.

You are right in that I almost always use Google Maps desktop and research the POI before hitting the road.

I appreciate your suggestion to use a desktop emulator of an Android device perhaps using tools like Bluestacks or a similar other product.

The idea of using a Chrome book is IMO the best option if resources permit. I will definitely consider that in the future.

I also have made a note about the fact that many features are exclusively available on both Android and desktop.

For a moment I could not believe that flight is not an option on the mobile and I reached out to grab my mobile phone to verify.

My intention of posting this question was to check if I missed something and if not then if anyone has found out a workaround to this.

Thanks once again for a holistic reply to my query

Thanks for grabbing the hints, though I didn’t mention any distinct solution @TusharSuradkar
But please note, an emulator works efficiently if the available ram is > 4 GB!

Nevertheless, Nowadays, I find that I am spending most of the time in browsing.
Occasionally, I use spreadsheets. However, the free web-based programs are equally feature-rich.

Still, we remain tied up with a desktop as we are afraid of exploring new domains.

Not at all @C_T

I mentioned the solution as a passing remark and do not mean to suggest anything that might unknowingly go against the policy of Google or LG Connect.

4GB is an enormous requirement and the emulator that I mentioned is terribly slow as well, though that is the only one am aware of.

I am with you on the fact that online spreadsheets are equally feature-rich and also compare in speeds and ease-of-use with their desktop predecessors.

I am tied with the desktop for various reasons. I do not have much use for a mobile device unless I am my self on the road and mobile.

My work involves heavy use of graphically rich applications like CAD which as of the year 2020, only a desktop can support satisfactorily.

As a result, I end up searching for desktop equivalents applications of those created primarily for the mobile or handheld devices and subsequently the features therein. This is also the primary reason behind posting my question about featured lists in this post.

Thank you again for your elaborate explanations and disclaimers and for the tremendous contributions to the LG Connect community.

Hey!! @TusharSuradkar

Every technique and form has own specialities and functionalities.

The implementation procedure, technology, Functionality and feedback procedure are one of the majorities involved in.

And of course some limitations and lack of things.

Regarding your question,

I clarify that,

We are able to identify with these,

  • Google Maps on Android.
  • Google Maps on Desktop.
  • Google Maps on ios.
  • Maybe in future, there another version of technology to be invented, like Android &ios both are available right now, new one will be add in future. (Hence, it has very less chances because both are works fine.)

As a Android user,

I face the very good amount of difficulties and limitations,

Using connect, but not for google maps.

I thing Google Maps works on Android is very good compare to ios and desktop. (Maybe I wrong, because I didn’t use that in about both manner)

Regarding Google Maps featured lists, I asked the question, you will check on that my past posts on my profile.

And in conclusion,

Google Maps in Android is more humble  , friendly and helpful.

Hey!! @Jesi

Oops!!!

I have no ios. I have only Android.

@KishorMali my friend,

I was doing a quick check if a feature was available on Desktop that I really liked on Android.

A simple line stating “No, It is not available on the desktop” was sufficient @Jesi - note this as well.

Kishor, I do not have the bandwidth nor the time to read an essay about what you have tried to say which anyways I did not understand much.

Try to keep it short, dear.

Thanks

Thank you for your feedback @TusharSuradkar !

I’d like to think I did say that, and tried to helped you understand a bit more for future doubts, but the next time I will put it less technical terms and more simple English so it’s easier for you to understand :+1:

I guess that was the reason, as my answer was the shortest one, and that seems to have happened with Kishor as well.

Please do remember the 5 core values of Connect when answering comments and be respectful.

See you around!

@Jesi Most humbly and with all the respect “Two times in a row you have posted a long answer” with no help to me, in whatever way you’d want to justify that it was. Kindly remember the 5 core values of Connectand have respect for other’s time

@TusharSuradkar , I think you might be confusing the answers being long with them being less direct and more general as my first answers are the shortest ones on this thread. Like I already said, I will consider that for the next time you have a question and I choose to answer it.

Now, please consider that each of us took time writing to help you understand, I don’t think what you wrote to Kishor was respectful to him or that you’re being respectful to the time of both of us took to try to help you understand. It seems contradictory.

Please take into account that we all have different perspectives based on our cultures, knowledge, and more. I did try to help you with my answer and I do think my answer would be helpful to someone different, I didn’t say it helped you as I can’t affirm that.

I do understand Kishor’s answer so unfortunately it seems to me like English might also be a barrier between us.

Excuse my long answer, but it’s the last time I comment on this thread as you already found the solution to your question.

Thanks, @Jesi I appreciate you took the time to look into my question and was the first to answer.

Trust me, I loved that

And I have no problem with your answer. In fact if you check my reply, I have thanked you and posted my inference from your reply.

But pointing me to the 5 core values of Connect in your previous answer was a bit alarming as I inferred that as a moderator you have voluntarily declared that I have violated them.

I was clear enough to inform Kishor that his answer is lengthy and that I do not have the time and the bandwidth to read it fully and also further that his English usage is not comprehensible to me. You may safely assume that it is entirely my fault that I am not able to comprehend everyone’s style of writing. Please forgive me for that.

So where do you see disrespect in here?

Why do you have to allege and arrive at the conclusion that this amounts to disrespect?

Won’t you honestly accept that it becomes irritating and quite annoying that you check in to the Connect community for some quick fact checks and in return get preached and lectured about things that you are least interested in? I am feeling so tired…

Hey!! @Jesi

First of all,

You are really good, thanks for Taking my side.

Yes, the reply of tushar is really hateful and disrespecting of my opinion and point of view.

And it’s directly violate the 5 core values of connect.

My detailed reply is having my point of views , and I oftentimes write more details in my reply.

By the way,

You are the youngest connect moderator in this community, that’s the proud of you. I really inspired from you because you did & doing the great work. Your accessible google map lists are more helpful.

We are don’t interact to much, because my most of the discussions had with ermest.

Still I am 20 years old. :joy:

Hi @Jesi

I have developed much interest in accessibility :wheelchair: recently as evident from my last few posts.

In fact, I did my first accessibility meetup yesterday.

Could you tell more about your “accessible google map lists” that Kishor mentioned in the previous reply?

I am curious to know and might find some inspiration from your work going forward

@KishorMali my friend, I have been a great appreciator of your ideas and posts for several months now and have praised your work without mincing words several times in the past. But you stooped down to taking sides in this discussion. Are we here for all this? Think about it.

I will make time to read your lengthy answer.

I am sure it will turn out to be of great help :+1: when I am able to decode it.

Chill… young people and remember to Keep It Short and Simple, as you really need to

Hello @KishorMali
I appreciate your point informing that the various avatars of Maps are distinct entities & have different functionalities.
However, there is nothing wrong for a user to expect similar functionalities everywhere. Or, to know how to access that if the feature hides in some obscure setting.

As an example, when I look for restaurants, the app shows a % match for my tastes.

I prefer going to places which show a 90% match.
However, many wouldn’t be aware of how to invoke that match. That’s because the setting is at a third level in the menu and not recognizable immediately.
