Regarding your inquiry, the icon highlighted would lead to private messages as well as acting as an indicator for the amount received messages from other Local Guides. (therefore the button should be available to use for every Local Guides)

I have just sent you a Message on the inbox, for you to see how it works.
The inbox is where are archived the private messages sent to you in Connect.
The Private messaging system is built to give the possibility to the Local Guides to a private communication, without knowing any other way to contact them (email etc.)
In this way you can communicate with other Local Guides while respecting their privacy.
How to send a private message:
From the Local Guide profile: Scroll the profile down until you reach: “Send this user a private message”. Click on there and type your message
From the inbox:
A copy of the message will sent to your email. Please note that the email is sent from a noreply address. It means that you cannot reply to the message from your email. You will have to reply from the message on the inbox
