I was just going through, in fact searching for the write-ups related to SOS safety features for ladies esp in India. Would like to know if it is functional. I did’nt find any on my Google Maps app.
Please let me know more about this feature if not, then updating the feature or introducing one in India would be of immense help!
I have never seen something like that my self, but it sound like a nice and helpful idea. Here on local guides connect we have a category or a board were you can share your idea, and the local guide team will have a look on it and see if it can be implemented, please see this link which will take you to the Idea Exchange board. There you will need to describe your issue, and also the possible solution, on how the solution can be implemented and how you want Google or Google Maps to transmit the information or signal to provide help to the intended person. You can firstly read other ideas there to see how you can create yours. Cheers.
Are you referring to the SOS Alerts as described here@Sarah786 ? That is not something you can influence yourself, but something Google initiates in case of e.g. an earthquake.
Are you saying something about the stay safe feature launched in India the Android users @Sarah786 ?
That becomes useful when you hire a cab or auto and then have the anxiety of going off route.
To use that, start navigation as soon as you begin your journey. You will notice an option “stay safe” with two sub-options. The first is to warn you in case of a large deviation and the second is to share your live location with your family and friends. Activate both and that will remove the fear of the driver taking you for a ride.
@Sarah786 This is a nice idea you posted about. As we know Google maps is giving us many friendly features, Like location sharing, Navigation, Location finding, Accessibility and many more. These are implemented by users’ demands and digitalization. So you can send feedback to the maps team with your ideas. But the Local Guides team makes it easier by adding Idea Exchange board to get some best idea easily. As our Connect Moderator @Raphael-Mahumane describes you this matter before.
Hi @JanVanHaver thank you for sharing that link, I was not sure if the local guide was talking about this feature. I remember seeing it during floods here in South Africa some months back. it normally pops up when navigating Google Maps on the affected area.
I see you already have some interesting answers here. I will have to say that I too am not quite sure which feature you’re talking about here.
Like already mentioned, the new Stay Safer feature has been launched in India. If this is not what you had in mind and you are not referring to the SOS feature in case of natural disaster, please try to describe it further.
It may be something worth submitting in the Idea Exchange, if it’s a feature that doesn’t already exist.
