Is it possible to write a new review for an establishment without deleting or editing the old one? It’s been 6 months, or longer, since I’ve been to some of these establishments, and I would like to leave a new updated review, but still would like to leave the old one visible. How do I do this? Can it be done?
Hello @VickyMayonnaise ,
my understanding is that you can have only a single review for each business. My solution was to keep the original text, but enter a new line at the end (or in the beginning) with something like “Update as of April, 1 …” followed by the new additional text.
There is also the possibility to gain 5 points for an update of an existing review. Not sure though, if you need to wait to get pushed by Maps to do so.
Thank you for helping me out @WilfriedB and getting back to me so quickly, I appreciate you.
@VickyMayonnaise one warning:
After visiting a place the second time, you might get pushed by Maps “Do you want to rate this place?” Do not even click one of the stars at this point! I did it a couple of times and lost the old review. Instead wait for a push message “Did anything change?” or edit by yourself.
Google maps does not have the feature to add an updated review to a place nor is it really necessary because you can update your reviews just like you can delete or add images to a place visited multiple times through the explore updates tab. I asked this same question a while back on the local guides community. Since the feature doesn’t exist you can simply update your reviews by editing it. I’ve done this a couple of times. I add the latest edited version of the review at the top of the review window and include a time stamp with “Update” as the title or first sentence to let maps and users know it’s a review that has an ongoing update under my profile. Places change so editing a review is beneficial for recording your input on the same listing without duplicated content showing historical changes of the entity with multiple reviews by the same user. A couple of years back when a review was edited, a user would lose their likes on the listing of information but Maps has changed that thankfully so that likes or interactions are not removed of the review is updated in the same window. Good luck.
Eine andere Möglichkeit wäre über Erkunden ein Foto zuzufügen und als Untertitel die Aktualisierung
@Annaelisa interesting
@VickyMayonnaise @TiffanyStockstill
@Annaelisa As long as reviews are attached to our profiles of frequently visited places listed on maps it would make more sense to update the review itself and not just the explore tab as Google Maps is not a social media feed at the moment so much so as it is a mapping application and explorer device.

Ich kann nur sagen wie ich es bei mir sehe und ich finde es gut

Hi @VickyMayonnaise , “Welcome to Connect! If this is your first visit, you’ve come to the right place. This post will serve as a guide for everything you need to know about contributing content and engaging with the Local Guides community on Connect”. This is the first of the information that you will find in “Your guide to Connect” , the introductory Guide of the community. In there you will find all the necessary information to know how to better contribute in here.
Regarding your question, it is not possible to add a “second review” in Google Maps. The reason is: to avoid confusion and Spam (try to imagine someone that write several reviews of a place just to change the rating of the business). Therefore in Maps there can only be one review per user.
In any case in this moment there are several ways to add an update in a Listing in Google Maps:
- Update a review, as suggested by @WilfriedB and @TiffanyStockstill
- Add a photo update in Google Maps, as suggested by @Annaelisa
The two actions have a different scope:
- Review: If your experience about the place changed it is perfect to update the review. The updated review will appear with the new date. I do this frequently, if my feeling about the place is changed (in a positive or negative way) to highlight the improvement or the negative nove of the business. Sometimes the update is also suggested by Google Maps, as mentioned by Wilfried.
- Photo Update: If the place itself is changed, e.g. new furniture, or a different menu, it is perfect to add a Photo Update. Here below my Photo Update of The Migrant Child by Banksy , to show the degradation of the paint after years of waves and high tide in Venice

You’ve had some good advice from the community here @VickyMayonnaise I update reviews all the time when its useful to do so because the place has changed.
I usually put "Original: " in front of the existing text then put Month-Year: and my updated review text in front of it. This can be important and I often do it in circumstances such as
- Business has gotten better
- Business has gotten worse
- Business is steady and still in the same state years later
