Lone Sail
The most ambitious in its time and the most famous unfinished city. It began to be built back in the 70s of the last century. The project included shopping and entertainment, sports and tourist centers. Nevertheless, restaurants, cafes and almost 600 hotel rooms remained only on paper.
Construction was completed at the turn of the 80s and 90s, when difficult times came and the money for large-scale projects ended. The building has long been privately owned. Periodically, discussions arise on the topic of its reconstruction or demolition, but it doesn’t reach concrete cases. And it is worth throwing for joy to the ruffers and extremals.
Towers
This residential complex has become a new symbol of the city since its construction in the early 2000s. Elite buildings in the style of New York skyscrapers are present in every panoramic image of the city from the Dnieper River. I can’t even imagine a city without them.
The shortest subway
One branch and only six stations connect the Red Stone housing estate with the railway station. In the project - another section, from the station to the city center. The construction was postponed from year to year and only now has resumed. They promise to build three new stations in five years: “Theater”, “Central” and “Museum”.
Probably, the residents of housing estates Red Stone, Pokrovsky and Parus are waiting for the opening of these stations most of all. If everything works out, the road to the city center for them will take only 15 minutes.
Monstrous minibuses
Bad public transport is a symbol not only of the Dnieper. But in our city this problem, alas, is much more acute in comparison with other large settlements. Minibuses are for the most part Sprinters or Gazelles in a terrible state, stuffy, jam-packed, with rude and violating traffic rules drivers. Of course, there are Bogdans and spacious Mans, but the lion’s share of the routes is served by narrow and small Sprinters.
“Ozerka”
The central market, which will give odds to the famous Odessa “Privoz”. At Ozerka you can buy everything from food to clothing and electronics. My favorite places here are rows with homemade pickles and the second floor of the covered part of the market with fermented baked milk, sour cream, cottage cheese, sausage and smoked meats.

Monastery Island
A place of rest for citizens. This island is part of the T. Shevchenko park. It is connected to the right bank of the Dnieper by a pedestrian bridge. Also on it passes the Merefo-Kherson Bridge, recognized as an architectural monument. The island has an amusement park with a ferris wheel and an aquarium. In the central and southern part of the island is a beach. In summer, festivals are held on the island.
Previously, the island could also be reached by cable car, but since 2005 it has been mothballed and destroyed. Its prospects are incomprehensible.
A highlight is considered a nudist beach located in the southern part of the island, away from curious onlookers.
Bridges across the Dnipro
There are five bridges across the Dnipro in the city: Old (Amur), Merefo-Kherson, Central (New), Kaydak and South.
The very first was born the Old, it is the Amur bridge. Built at the end of the 19th century, it is both automobile and railway. In the middle of the bridge there is even a drawbridge for passing large ships.
The second was built railway Merefo-Kherson bridge. Absolutely unique - the longest reinforced concrete arch bridge in Europe. It is rightfully recognized as a monument of architecture.
The central or New bridge connects the city center with Slobozhansky Avenue. It was built in the 60s of the last century. South and Kaydatsky bridges are the youngest overpasses in the city, which are part of bypass roads. In addition to city traffic, all transit automobile transport moves along them.
