How to travel from Las Vegas Airport to Downtown 2 Dollars

Whether it is India or the US, taxis are exorbitantly costly especially between airport and the downtown.

During my recent travel to Las Vegas, I discovered that, just as in India, taxis often ask for an unfair fare and do not agree to go with the meter reading.

In this travel tip post, I will share the detailed procedure to take the Las Vegas city bus for just 2 Dollars from the airport to any hotel on the Strip.

After exiting the baggage pickup area, take the escalators to level 2 and look out for exit door #44
This is in terminal 3.

Just outside this gate cross the sidewalk is area for public buses with facilities like waiting benches.

A little ahead is an area marked for employee pickup-drop buses, taxis and so on. But they may not necessarily park in the respective zones. Especially taxis would try to encroach into the public bus area to lure passengers.

There are luggage carts available for incoming passengers, though unlike in India they are not free.

Soon a bus will arrive that looks similar but not this one. The frequency is 15 minutes.

The bus has two doors - one in the middle and another at the front. Both are accessible via retractable ramps.

Inside the bus are reserved seats for the differently abled and also ample luggage space.

Detailed information about support for customers with disabilities including support call number is displayed inside the bus.

Both day pass and hourly passes are available for as low as USD 2

This is very less compared to Taxis that charge anything ahead of USD 12 depending on the Hotel on the Strip or downtown.

The bus dropped us on the strip and the driver helped identify the nearest way to our Hotel - Mandalay Bay and Casino.

Though we had to walk a block away, it was an enjoyable walk gazing at the amazing Las Vegas skyline and the extravagant neon displays.

Note that not all road crossings in Las Vegas are Zebras. There are open sky bridges which may not have escalators.

After that I took the free tram from Excalibur Hotel and Casino.

This tram is free, and this is the entrance on the sky bridge.

The tram entrance is accessible and leveled with the platform.

Seating is limited and most of the space is for standing passengers.

The entrance section is clearly labeled, and the tracks can also be seen.

The timings are 10 am to 12 midnight. Party animals in Las Vegas do not need a tram earlier than 10 am

The tram has 3 stops.

First stop is Hotel Luxor Casino and the final stop that dropped us right inside the Hotel Mandalay Bay Casino.

In this way you can save tens of dollars in Las Vegas to travel to and from the airport to any hotel on the strip.

And also, the maddening traffic of Las Vegas

The fortunate part is that unlike in Germany, washrooms and drinking water is free in most parts of the US similar to that in India.

Hope you find this detailed travel tip useful on your next trip to the Fabulous Las Vegas

Wow. A fabulous and detailed post @TusharSuradkar

Very interesting facts. Hope you enjoyed Las Vegas Very much. Now in India also there are metro train facilities which are comparatively cheap than taxis, but they don’t cover many areas. I loved the way you explained with photos and could feel the journey very much. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Hello @TusharSuradkar ,

Thanks for the details about your experience, they are very helpful.

Even in Italy I avoid taking the taxi, sometimes the money they ask for is too much.

Fortunately, public transport works very well in some cities. :grinning: I’m talking about the area where I live, in Northern Italy.

Thank you dear @TusharSuradkar for detailed information.

When I visited Vegas pre-covid, I didn’t hire cab cab once. I landed Vegas midnight, meet a local at airport bus terminal and he helped me with routes to travel like a local. Everyday, I purchase $5 daily pass within bus and travel across the city. Metro service at Vegas is very cheap and network is throughout the city.

Lots of good memories.

Best seat to sit at front of on top deck.

Wooow only $2 @TusharSuradkar … what a steal! But I do agree with you that some public transport and shuttle buses are huge help for traveler like us! The last time I visited Las Vegas, we flew from NYC and stayed in the city then walked around.

Thank you @Gurukrishnapriya - and absolutely agree that metros in India is a big boon since they are cheap and hassle free.

Especially if they can run from city to the airport - that is where the taxis are the costliest.

Yes, I too remember @Pratik_89 that most hotels on the strip have a shuttle facility including Silver Sevens where I stayed after a 4 day stay at Mandalay Bay Casino. They in fact had a Free Limo Service when I visited there the last time.

Unexpected Limousine Experience at Silver Sevens H… -

The phrase I think is nothing more than a marketing term to popularize places like Vegas where they expect people to empty their pockets

In fact, I’d call this place Los Wages
