How to take photos for comic book fans

Are you or someone you know obsessed with comics? Do you love checking out comic book stores or attending cosplay events?

With Comic-Con coming up in San Diego, I thought it would be the perfect time to share how you can help other comic book fans find great places to go.

As you browse for your next comic book issue, have some fun taking great photos! Here are some useful photo tips to help you make your photos look super.

1. Get a wide view of the exterior

Does the comic book shop have great signage or interesting artwork in the windows? Take a wide shot of the store exterior to help others see what the store looks like from the outside.

2. Snap the stacks of comics

There’s so much to discover in a comic book shop! As you explore the stacks of comics on display, photograph some closeups of colorful book designs. Try different angles to get the perfect shot. Your photos can help others see the volume of comics a store may have.

3. Capture what makes the place special

Comic book stores and conventions often showcase exciting movie memorabilia, rare comics, and great art. Capturing these photos can help show a dedicated fan what they may find.

If these treasures are displayed in a glass case, turn off your flash to avoid glare from the glass. Then try shooting from different angles to find the one that shows the least amount of reflection from overhead lights.

4. Remember to ask permission

Get permission from an employee before you start taking photos at a comic book shop. At a comic book convention or event, always ask a cosplayer’s permission before you photograph them. Many cosplayers are willing to have their photo taken, but it’s always best to ask first.

Hi @Christina-NYC ,

I don’t read other books except academic books. It may seem awkward but I don’t wish my style to be influenced by other’s writings. :grinning: In one sense I am limiting myself. But I manage to map comic houses and any book houses.

What a great thinking. I was a comic lover like Tintin, Fantom, Mandrek but I never thought like you. It’s a great lesson for me.

I don’t think comic book fan like photos which takes from digital camera. The beauty of comics book, came from hand made clipart or computer graphics…

I understand your enthusiasm but don’t waste your effort.
