How to Share your “Video” for the ‘Video Challenge’ with Dos & Don'ts - TravellerG

For this (“Tutorial”) reason, I created this post - this helps you to SUCCESSFULLY UPLOAD YOUR VIDEO to the post:

"Challenge: Share a food and drink video on Google Maps to earn a Connect badge - by Googler @InaS ".

Dos & Don’ts

Dos:

1. If you are uploading a new video (shot on any other device), use your mobile to upload it to Google Maps (copy to your mobile & upload to Google Maps).
2. If you use a PC to upload your video, this error message may come up and you won’t be able to upload the video.
3. Use a PC only (not mobile) to select & share your video.
4. After selecting your video, ensure that the same is ready to play on Google Maps (details explained, later).
5. Important: After copying the link of your video, recheck the link in ‘Incognito mode’ (incognito browser tab) to ensure that your video is properly visible.

Don’ts:

• Don’t share the link from your mobile:

The share button (the Red Square marked below) in the mobile will not direct to your video; instead, it leads to the restaurant only.

• Don’t try to view the final link on a mobile - you may be misguided.

How to select your video & create the ‘Link’ on a PC:

1. Open Google Maps on a PC.
2. Type the name of the ‘Restaurant’ from where your video was captured; then search and select your restaurant. Screenshot -1
3. Once your restaurant is open on your PC, click on the main photo (shown in the red rectangle).
4. Then, you will get sub-menus under the ‘Restaurant Address Bar’. Screenshot -2
5. Select the “By You” sub-menu by sliding the menu to the right (the last menu). Screenshot -3
6. All your videos & photos (of this location) will be available here; select the video which you want to publish in “Video Challenge” by clicking on it.
7. Your video opens on the right side, on the main page; Play your video & confirm whether it is playing correctly.
8. Now, on the right top, the ‘Three Dots’ menu will be visible.
9. Click it open & select the “Share” option (third line).
10. A link will open up and when the link is copied, the line will become ‘Blue’. Screenshot -4
11. Check this link in any ‘incognito browser’ and confirm the video is visible/playing properly.
12. Use (paste) the same link in the “Video Challenge Blog”.

Note: Link sharing is not possible on mobile, as of now.

For people without access to a computer, I believe they can get the deep link to individual videos by using a browser on their mobile to access http://Google.com/maps
