How to see the data you’ve shared through Local Guides and Google Maps

With Europe’s new data protection law (GDPR) in effect, we’re highlighting some of the ways you can control and see what you share with us and others, and what to do if you decide to close your Connect account or leave the Local Guides program.

First, you can change your email preferences for the Local Guides program so you’ll only hear from us about info you want to know about. You can also see the data you’ve shared with us. See everything you’ve shared on Google Maps by downloading your contributions with Google Takeout. Through Connect, you can see the personal and community data you’ve shared. Here’s how:

  • In Connect, go to My Settings
  • Tap Personal Information
  • Scroll down for links to download your personal and community activity data

Downloading your data does not remove it or close your Connect account. If you decide to close it, we’d be sad to lose you, but here’s how.

In Connect, go to My settings

  • Under “Personal,” tap Close Account

After you close your account, you can’t reopen it. If you later decide to rejoin the community, you must re-register and start from scratch. Closing your account will immediately log you out.

In the event you want to leave the Local Guides program, you can download any data you want first, then follow these steps:

This won’t have any impact on your contributions, however Google will delete your Local Guides profile and the features and data that depend on it. You may remove any of your Google Maps contributions at any time in Your contributions tab.

Closing accounts at Connect Level, LocalGuides Level and Google Level are not something we LocalGuides will do lightly.

Thus this official guide is very helpful to those of us needing or wanting to know more about it.

My office IT security technician advisor has implemented a vigorous Cybersecurity policy guidelines and rules for the whole entire office and staff due to new changes in HIPPA and Privacy ACT of European Union. We love Google Business or GSuite. I as a dentist or what we call CEO strongly encourage it. Please read some of the rules that my staff and even me have to read and abide. That could have cussed some of the issues with google local reviews that we encourage our patients and our firewalls. 10 Workstation Security (HIPAA) 1. Purpose The purpose of this policy is to provide guidance for workstation security for Next Generation Dental ® workstations in order to ensure the security of information on the workstation and information the workstation may have access to. Additionally, the policy provides guidance to ensure the requirements of the HIPAA Security Rule “Workstation Security” Standard 164.310(c) are met. 2. Scope This policy applies to all Next Generation Dental ® employees, contractors, workforce members, vendors and agents with a Next Generation Dental ® -owned or personal-workstation connected to the Next Generation Dental ® network. 3. Policy Appropriate measures must be taken when using workstations to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of sensitive information, including protected health information (PHI) and that access to sensitive information is restricted to authorized users. 3.1 Workforce members using workstations shall consider the sensitivity of the information, including protected health information (PHI) that may be accessed and minimize the possibility of unauthorized access.
