How to Upload Great Photos to Google Maps

Hi @supriya-reddy

You don’t need to reduce the size of the photos in Google Maps, but you have to use the Free option for unlimited space at High quality, instead of Full Quality, on Google Photo.

Of course, with a quick search you will find all the answer, but for an easy reference I will try to summarize in here the most common questions.

With a correct setting, you will be able to store:

  • Photos, in Google Photos, at High Quality (16MP), for free (unlimited storage)
  • Videos, in Google Photos, at High Definitions (1080P), for free (unlimited storage)

This is the storage I’m actually using:

Most of the space is used for documents that I have in Drive. As you can see from the details, I am not using space for photos

And I have more than 15.000 files (photos and videos) stored

So, don’t worry about space for photos in Google Maps. Make the correct setting, and you will have no problem in storage due to Google Maps or Youtube videos

For more information, here are the links to the help pages:

Hope this can help you

Happy Mapping

Hi @supriya-reddy you will need to decide what you will do to solve your problem, you have been give more than enough information by @ErmesT and follow that and disable sync which is what is taking all your storage by uploading photos you take to your Google Drive storage. Sync can be disabled by going to your your settings on your Gmail profile either using your phone or PC, you will need to go to your Google photos, click settings and see from the screen short:

@Raphael-Mahumane even with sync (backup) turned off, the photos will still consume your drive space when you add them to Maps if you don’t follow the advice of @ErmesT

@PaulPavlinovich that is true, I had less than 3GB free storage by the time I responded to this question, I followed @ErmesT instruction and now is the opposite, I have more than than 10GB free storage left.
