How to NOT breach the 1000 Photos Limit Using a Collage

This topic would be of interest to active local guides, especially those who use photos liberally in their posts.

If you are not aware, LG Connect has a limit of uploading 1000 photos.
After that, you are forced to remove older photos to be able to upload new ones.

Some technical experts have found out a workaround by way of storing photos online and inserting them into an LG Connect post by use of under-the-hood HTML coding. This is more of a hack than a solution and there are several steps involved in that but it works.

You can explore making a collage from multiple photos which is a more elegant solution in my opinion.
Besides that, you get an opportunity to try hands at various photo and image handling techniques and present photos in various graceful and distinguished ways.

There are various collage making tools available online and also programs that can be run on a desktop computer.
I am not aware of any tools for the Android or Apple platforms nor would be discussing any here.

1. Collage Maker Online

Searching for this phrase on Google found me a simple website called photocollage.com

Right off the bat you can drag photos from Windows Explorer and drop in the browser to create a collage instantly.

The photos can be dragged around freely on the canvas, resized using handles, and also rotated.

In the auto mode, the photos line up quickly in a matrix form.
It can shuffle photos randomly and also allows swapping two photos.

Apart from this, various interesting stickers and emojis can be inserted into the collage.

Finally, the collage can be exported as a JPG or PNG.

2. Picasa

This is a discontinued product from Google in favor of Photos.Google.com but I still have this installed on my desktop computer.

Select a folder in the left side pane where all photos to create the collage are located.
Under the Create menu select ‘Picture Collage’.

This is a super-smart tool in that it arranges the photos in a layout showing more important photos bigger and less significant photos in a smaller size.

The grid can be inserted automatically and its width controlled on-the-fly by dragging a slider.

3. Paint.Net

This is a free tool and a great combination of basic photos editing tools from Adobe Photoshop and simple vector tools from Illustrator.

Everything needs to be done manually to create a collage so you have more power and control over the final layout.

Besides this the properties like brightness, contrast, hue, and saturation of just a selected portion of a photo can be modified.
This imparts a great balance to the overall composition and appearance of the collage.

If you are not much of a fan of collages or find it not worth the time spent but still want to limit the number of photos on LG Connect, a quick trick would be to simply line up the photos one below another to create a single photo.

Paint.Net offers quick keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+R to resize an empty canvas or create more space on an existing photo.

Open any of the photos below in a new tab or window and note that this is a simple and single composite image that gives the look-and-feel of 3 images inserted one below another.

Remember that the first photo collage in your post is displayed in the preview on the main page.
So to display it correctly make sure it has a size in the proportion 16:9 like 1600x900 or 800x450 and so on…

The net effect of using a collage is that compiling 5-6 photos into a single one effectively raising the photo limit in LG Connect to 5000-6000 photos which is incredible.

You can further upload these to Photos.Google.com and as illustrated in this tech tip article further save even more numbers.

In the next part of this article, I will show you a couple of more simple and efficient methods of storing photos online and linking from there hassle-free into an LG Connect post.

Until then… Happy Guiding

Hi @TusharSuradkar collage can be a useful tool to avoid the limit. Did you know that Google Photos itself can make collages too? Select between three and

nine photos, hit the plus control and select “collage” and it will be ready in moments.

Here is an example made with Google Photos.

Another way to avoid the limit is when you need a generic image, select from your own saved images one you’ve posted before.

You can also resize images using https://squoosh.app

Good post - useful too, @TusharSuradkar JI…

Congrats!

As a Photographer, I would like to show my photos in full size only -

I do agree that is another way to show & to extend the Limit high; also by giving an ALBUM LINK, for those who are interested in Photography, is also another way.

A well written post @TusharSuradkar , and many LGs will benefit from it.

Thanks for the tip @PaulPavlinovich

I absolutely had no idea about the collage feature in Google Photos.

That gives me one more reason to ‘not’ hang-on to Picasa.

Great selection of beer. Cheers :beers:

Thank you for the appreciation @TravellerG , Sir.

I totally agree that only a full-size photo can give full justice to its various aspects.

I should have mentioned that a collage is best suited when you cannot resist the temptation to show off many things like the various animals in a zoo or the various moods and poses of people in a party and the fine details are not important in that context… or such similar situations.

Thank you @AdamGT

Do you know if a collage is a valid type of photo that can be uploaded to Google Maps, given all other criteria are met?

By other criteria, I mean, no blur image, no selfie, dimension limit. etc.

Hello dear @TusharSuradkar JI,

“…like the various animals in a zoo or the various moods and poses of people in a party…” - this can give more clear guidance to those who try to use your technique - that is all.

However_, Collage_ is not entertained by Google because “It is made through human editing” - it loses its originality. (just for your info)

Hi @TusharSuradkar

I don’t know the answer to this question however, I cannot see the benefit of adding a collage to Maps.

Thank you @TravellerG Sir

“However*, Collage* is not entertained by Google because “It is made through human editing” - it loses its originality.”

I believe this is related to Google Maps and not LG Connect where the whole focus is to stay within the 1k limit, Right?

Hi, @Rohan10 Thank you for the lovely feedback. I am glad you found the post useful

And thank you very much for the reminder about the collage in the Moonglette post.

@TravellerG Sir, here’s another compelling and impressive example where a collage can be used - showing the steps in a recipe.

Another reason to use a collage is to prefer it over an animated GIF which no matter how fancy it may look actually ends up appearing awful in an LG Connect post. The comments in a recent discussion by @AdamGT is a testimony to this.

Thanks, @Sophia_Cambodia

The collage technique is especially useful for your case since I’ve noticed you like to include many photos in your posts and you have several posts on LG Connect - all of which I highly appreciate.

You can always choose photos that you think don’t need close observation of details by the reader and that is only indicative - such photos can be clubbed together in a collage.

I quickly looked at your profile page and noticed that you have already uploaded 810 photos so left with only 190 more to be added in future posts.

So the way forward is to delete old photos in which case they will disappear from those posts or upload them to Google Photos and link back using the technique provided by @TravellerG or create collage and replace a bunch of photos with a collage and delete the individual photos safely.

Dear @TravellerG Sir,

I can see that Paul has mentioned that it is created using Google Photos.

If you do not know already, the collage feature is available under the left-sidebar → For You menu.

@TusharSuradkar thank you for pointing out about this. I saw it before somewhere but couldn’t find it again. Now, that you mentioned about it, I am informed and will try to do things better. Will look at them closely. I hope I can do it.
